The totals are drawing most of the early attention in the NBA for Tuesday and we have the two largest line moves covered. Plus, we have the latest in the Big East and what basketball bettors are thinking about unbeaten Wichita State. As we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll.
NBA – (501) SACRAMENTO at (502) CLEVELAND 7:05 E CSN-C, FSOH
The Cavaliers rank 24th in points allowed at 102.3 per game and the Kings come in 26th at 103.5 per outing. Those betting NBA basketball can take a hint and lifted the total from 203 to 204.5. Here is where it might get interesting, Sacramento is averaging just 95.1 PPG in their last seven tries and has seen its scoring average dwindle to 101.2 PPG. Cleveland on the other hand is 19-9 UNDER at home versus offensive teams scoring 99 or more points a game the last two seasons. Hmm…Doug's Take – Slight lean Over
NBA – (503) DALLAS at (504) CHARLOTTE 7:05 E FSSW, SS
Without question the most curious line move of the day in the NBA. This conflict was released at 198 by the sportsbooks; fell rather quickly to 196.5, before zooming to 200.5. On the surface it would seem tempo would be the key, with Dallas playing at a more rapid speed and ranked seventh in scoring (104.6), compared to Charlotte who works the shot clock and focuses on defense and tallies only 94.5 PPG (27th). Yet, Dallas has won five in a row and held its last three opponents, all sluggish offensive teams, to just 89.3 PPG. What is the right play, possibly riding the Mavs, who are 21-8 OVER after a win by 10 points or more since last season. Doug's Take – Play Over
CBB – (525) SOUTHERN ILLINOIS at (526) WICHITA STATE 8:00 E
With just six games regular season remaining, talk of Wichita State completing an undefeated regular season is gaining momentum. Those making college basketball picks are wondering if the Shockers have become too popular of a public wager or if the mounting pressure will make them play tight. Whatever the case, Wichita State has been dumped two points to -15.5, which appears rather low considering they were 11.5-point road favorites at Southern Illinois on Jan. 2 and covered 72-57. The Salukis are playing much better having won four straight, shooting over 50 percent in this stretch. But this was not against a defense even close to the Shockers and coach Greg Marshall’s team is 15-5 ATS as a favorite and 6-0 ATS after breaking the 80-point barrier. Doug's Take – Lean with Wichita State
CBB – (531) XAVIER at (532) BUTLER 9:00 E FS1
Maybe Brad Stevens saw the writing on the wall which is why he left for the NBA, but whatever his reasons, Butler has become just another ordinary college basketball team and is really strained in its maiden season in the Big East at 2-9 (3-7-1 ATS). Xavier’s talent-level is also down this season, but they have held up better at 6-4 in their initial campaign in their new conference. With the Musketeers having more offensive answers and better on defense, they have been flipped from a one-point underdog to a two-point road favorite. The concern with backing Xavier is their four-game spread losing streak; nonetheless, they are 10-1 ATS off a home win. Doug's Take – Lean with Xavier
