    I try not to be too firm about these things, but I honestly do not see Gonzaga rising above No. 7 on my ballot, even if the Zags win out. The reality is they are not playing the same caliber of competition as teams who are ranked ahead of them. Should we move a team up the rankings just because people above them are losing? If anything, I suspect the Zags aren't as good as their current ranking would indicate. Think about it: The Zags' best wins this season came over Kansas State in Seattle and by a point at Oklahoma State on New Year's Eve. Does that sound like a top-five team to you?

    can only beat the teams on their schedule... now if your talking a statistical ranking I agree, but it's not fair to automatically move a bcs team below other bcs teams but not gonzaga. pac-12 is nothing special either so why should a team get moved below arizona for losing but not gonzaga? the nature of polls is to drop a team that loses... don't think because a team isn't in a bcs conference should make that the point at which the team that lost stops dropping.

    If they go 18-0 in conference they should move up, make an 18 game parlay with their conference games and it will pay pretty well.

    in terms of rpi the wcc isnt really close to the p12 and thats really whats gonna matter

    other than street mary that conference is pure garbage

    i agree but i think that arbitrarily drawing the line of how far the team falls at "first mid major team below them" doesn't make sense. ap and usa today aren't objective statistical rankings, its a measure of popular opinion and not recently losing.

    Hmm, they beat Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Baylor and West Virgina (crap but apart of Big 12). Looks like to me they didn't play that bad of an out of conference schedule.

    Best advice I've heard on Gonzaga is to bet them hard in the tourney when they're rated low, fade when rated high.

    That being said, this year's team is as strong and as balanced as I've ever seen them. Anyone's game this year.

    But in a ranking system it matters who's on your schedule. If you had a team in an awful conference win all their games and they played all awful teams from other conferences in non-conf play, and they went undefeated, are you going to rank them #1 because they're undefeated. They could easily be a very poor team.

    Does anyone care to share their thoughts on Gonzaga vs St Marys on Thursday?

    I'm thinking Gonzaga can pull off a nice road victory here. I think their
    bigs will be too much of a force for St. Marys to handle.

    St Mary's all day in that game. Not sure what the line will be but i am guessing they'll be 5 point dogs? Gonzaga is the most overrated team in the nation. St. Mary's may be the most underrated team in the nation. Put that together and it equals easy money on St. Mary's ml and spread.

    I don't buy the overrated/underrated angle, but Gonzaga-St. Mary's is a true rivalry game, and with that---- you have to throw out some common sense because you just can't predict how rivalry games go.
