The ... who's motivated and who's let down thread NIT

Ok, I know most of you are all focused on your bracketts and the NCAA BUT .... The NIT can be a huge money maker. Who are the teams that have the talent and also the MOTIVATION? And who are the teams who have the talent but are big candidates for a let down.

I'll report back after the selections.

First thought is Drexel. Think they may have the proverbial chip on the shoulder.

    Money here boys. BOL.

I'm not an idiot... I know what are you trying to say.

And its common sense every year....and guess what? Some of the biggest snubs have gone on to make good NIT runs.

UW willl come out as stiff as a log.

First off, they are lazy gangbang thugs that are led by a lazy coach... so they always start that way. Throw in the fact that they are devastated by not getting in....

take the road dog + whatever pts. and it will have to be pretty large as I imagine they'll be favored pretty good

Oregon won the CBI last year so they may do well in the NIT. Altman is a very good coach and 3 out of their 4 best players are Seniors.

Doubtful Illinois turned down the NIT. You don't turn it down anymore, now that the NCAA has full control over it. They maybe have turned down the CBI, much like UCLA.

Anyway, NIT is just as viable a money maker as the NCAA, if not more so due to the lack of public.

I actually know someone close to the program and here is Illinois' situation.

Can't host a home game b/c Assembly Hall has prior obligations.
    Interim coach
The players actually voted to turn down an NIT bid and that was made public information.

Since no one can turn down an invitation anymore, Illinois made it pretty clear they didn't want anything to do with it.

It's possible they turned it down - everyone has that right. That situation makes it more viable that they turned it down. However, it is just as likely they didn't get an invite.

I could see the NCAA not being to upset about Illinois declining the invite due to the circumstances if correct.

They melted down in a bad conference. Much more pathetic than melting down in the Big East or Big 10, lol.

Washington will be playing with a gigantic chip on its shoulder. They might be a good team to ride, except their coach is absolute garbage.

I can't speak for finals, but I think yes. Think they may have a chip on their shoulder.

    Thanks for the input.

Guys, I'm a degenerate and I'm not even dumb enough to bet on the NIT.

I know there are some solid philosophies but the reality is, no one knows how motivated a team will be or whether that motivation will matter or not.

The only ones I would touch are two teams who had no real NCAA aspirations anyway. Like Princeton @ Evansville.

Don't trust teams that feel slighted by not getting in Big Dance. UMass was a nothing team beginning of year, now believe in themselves and just missed out on grabbing a slot vs StBonnies. Proverbial 'dangerous' NIT team. Miss St has legit reason for feeling wronged, does not mean they'll go into NIT guns ablazing.

Interesting first round. Miss St one of my 3 picks for a let down goes down. Seton Hall who someone else offered barely squeeks by as a big favorite over STONEY BROOK. WTF. I made a small bet on Umass but STONEY BROOK.
