All 9 losses came inside the big east...

Team just wanted it more, and Kemba refused to let this young team fail throughout the season hitting several game winners...

I don't necessarily think every voter MUST put UConn No. 1, and even though there's probably no logical alternative in this instance, you can't go with a team that didn't even make the Final Four.

Butler had to play Pittsburgh. Uconn had an easier road then them.

They are obviously not the true #1 but they have to be voted #1 in the polls. Ohio State is probably the true #1. I think the difference between the top and the rest is consistency. Any team can win in one game. The one and done is just a luck fest but I love it.

Why have a final poll? UCONN won the tournament and is the #1 team in the country. As for the other positions, it's talked about who made the finals, semis, sweet 16, etc. Nobody talks about who finished second or fifth in the final poll.

I dont think we really need a poll to determine who is the champion seeing how we just spent a month on a tourney for that.

So if UT- San antonio got hot and won the tourney, they would have to be the #1 team in the final poll? This is a 6 game tourney it is not much different than the Maui invitational or the Anchorage-Alaska tourney. It just has more games. It detemines who is playing the best in March, not the whole year. Remember UConn finished 9th in the Big East, which is the bottom half of that conference with a 9-9 Big East record. The best team for the whole 2010-2011 year can't finish in the bottom half of their own conference.

They won the tournament so I'm not arguing they are the champions. They took care of business and deserve it but the argue they are actually the best team in college basketball seems silly to me. 9-9 in their conference that everybody says was overrated due to overall tournament performance. If they are put in a 7 game series with Ohio State or Kansas do you seriously think UConn would be favored? Would you bet UConn at even money? Doubt it.

The best team is the team left standing at the end. How you can win 11 consecutive tournament knock-out games in a row and not lose one and NOT be #1. This makes no sense to me. The top teams win the big games. Teams loaded with players that don't win can never be regarded as the best. That's paper champ crap and proves nothing.

Yes, won every tourney and every tournament game they were in this year starting in Maui. Also didnt lose an out of conference game all year. While this teammight not have been great or blowing out teams, Many times this year they looked good!

UConn has gone undefeated in tournaments this year. They won the Maui, The Big East, and now the NCAA. They have the NCAA MVP Kemba Walker, and a good supporting cast. Most of all they are clutch. This UConn team has shown no fear and come up victorious. Congrats to them!! Go CUSE '12

UConn won the NCAA Tournament, which is why they were given the top ranking at the end of the season. That does not mean, though, that they are the best team this season in college basketball. Like some other people have written here, they got hot at the end of the season. More often than not the team that wins the NCAA Tournament is not the best team, and it is definitely the case this season, as well.
