    Matchbook leaving the US

It looks like the rumor was indeed true. They will be pulling out of the US as soon as tonight.
With this change, MB will announce the separation with WSEX in principal. As they cashout the majority of their clients, it will be telling.

How are they going to survive without their US players? Weren't they a majority of the customers?

We'll have to wait for their statement. They'll likely work hard at low juice option in Canada and we'll have to see what ins they have for UK and Asian betting. They have some software work to do before they get much back there.

It was only a matter of time. I was sick of hearing from FISHHEAD about how great Matchbook was, when I never felt confident they'd stay in the American market.

    Bill,

Just to confirm, does this mean they are no longer accepting US players but will still be serving existing accounts elsewhere throughout the world including Canada? Alternatively, could this mean they are closing the doors permanently and no longer serving customers?

wow....this is really bad news. I am not from the US, but i doubt this will do wonders for the liquidity on US sports.

    Head to head with Betfair?
They can't survive without US players, that is/was their captive market.

They state they fully intend to build on non-US market but up until just recently they said they had no intention to leave the US.

The most important thing at the moment is their first act independent of WSEX... to pay out most of their user base.

The only logical reason for them to pull out of the US market is that someone now involved with MB is living in the US. Right?

Why else would they pull out?

Inability to, cost effectively, process financial transactions.

Betfair is not good at US sports and Matchbook is not good at soccer. They are in different markets.

Because there is little interest outside the US.
Do you think an exchange focused on US sports can have viable liquidity with only Canadian players?

Fwiw, NBA and NFL games which are televised on ESPN have bigger volumes on Betfair than Matchbook.

They could just charge more on the fees and if you don't want to play there, you don't play there.

    It's something more than that.
