NBA Tonight: Spurs @ Clippers
11/01/10 – pokerwhiz90
With 77% of the bets currently placed on the Spurs to cover the spread, the Spurs should be seen as a moderate favorite while they will play in the staples center tonight. The (1-1) Spurs will be more than enough to handle as the Clippers face the fourth consecutive opponent that has them completely outmatched
The Clippers have lost 16 straight against the Spurs, 8 games in Los Angeles, and have opened (0-3) to start the 2010-11 NBA season. The two previous seasons, the Clippers have started similarly at 0-4. However, there is some hope for the Clippers out there. His name is Blake Griffin and he will be playing against an inexperienced DeJaun Blair and an ancient Tim Duncan.
Blake Griffin missed all of last season with a season ending knee injury but has looked very healthy thus far. Although Griffin just missed his 3rd consecutive double-double, the rest of the team has looked terrible. They are the worst shooting team in the NBA at 37.7% and under new head coach Vinny Del Negro, the Clippers haven’t shown considerable improvement from last year.
The common theme between the Blazers, Warriors and Mavericks is the strong play in the paint. Marcus Camby, David Lee and Dirk are just a class above rookie Blake Griffin and the Spurs’ hall of famer will be Griffin’s hardest test yet.
The Clippers are 30th in the league in scoring, allowing more than 100 points per game. The Spurs are averaging 106 points and allowing a similar number of points as well.
Off the court, Tony Parker has signed an extension and Clippers point guard Randy Foye is out with a hamstring injury.
This game is a matchup nightmare for the Clippers as a healthy Spurs team is fresh and predominantly a great team in October/November.
The Play: Spurs -7
If you aren’t convinced yet, tell me one person on the Clippers’ bench. The lack of depth will result in a double digit loss to the playoff bound Spurs.
