Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Saturday (Mar 1) we will commence with the March Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis for both games will be NO ACTION. Once your two-team parlay has been posted, you CANNOT change either play. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake (such as leaving out "Over" or "Under" or not clearly stating your selection), need to add analysis or wish to enter corrected lines, do so in a seperate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not tip off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not parlay selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  
• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.
  
• Residents outside the Continental US may be awarded the cash value prize instead of the monitor.

Rider/Siena under 148 - Even though these two went much higher in the regular season, for this one I think they will be tired and competitive, and the scoring will be moderate.

Nets/Houston over 191 - Hosuton has been scoring a lot on their post-Yao winning streak, and the Nets have been scoring more since losing Kidd as well. I think these trends will continue and this one should get into the 190s.

PHILADELPHIA 76ERS +5.5: The Celtics have the best record in the NBA, but Philadelphia is a tough venue to be a road favorite right now. The Sixers have won eight straight games at home by an incredible average of +18.9 points per game, and they are now in position for double revenge after losing twice to the Celtics this season.

SAN DIEGO +7: San Diego came back from 17 down to win in double overtime last night, and they have already shown they can compete with Gonzaga in this building this year, covering the number in a 59-55 loss last month. With a berth in the Big Dance on the line, look for a huge effort by the Toreros on their home floor.

Better judgment says to pass today. But it's still early in the contest and there are a few picks that I am leaning towards.

William & Mary +8.5: Yeah, they are the cinerella story within their conference tourney. They don't have an explosive offense, and most of their games go under. However, they are playing with a lot of heart, and tonight they have a chance to get into the tourney for the first time in school history. The last meeting between W&M and George Mason ended in a 54-60 GM win. GM shot %50 from the field, and W&M shot %39.6. W&M also only made 4 free throws, and GM made 16. With these stats, I couldn't figure out how W&M only lost by 6, and this game was at George Mason's home court? I think W&M is pumped up for tonight's game on a neutral court playing for the conference championship, and getting 8.5 points is much more than it seems it should be.

William & Mary vs. George Mason Over 116.5: This counters my argument that W&M produces a lot of Under's, which they do. But with this being the conference championship, and each team averages into the 60's for scoring, and allowing, I think that this total is set a little low. The reason for it being that George Mason is supposed to win 62-54. I don't see this score happening. I think this game will be much closer than 9 points and each team will score 56+ as well as free throws at the end to prolong the losing teams season.
