Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  
• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Analysis: New Orleans has won five straight and this will come to an end soon. Portland is a very good basketball team that is relatively healthy, while New Orleans is a little banged up. Take Portland and the points.

Iowa State +24.0
Analysis: Kansas is the best team in the country, but even the best team will have trouble beating a solid Iowa State team by more that 24 points. This one should be a Kansas victory, but Iowa State is a tough little ball team and they should be able to keep it within 24. Take Iowa State and the points.

MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES +3: This line wreaks of a trap, and the fact that Orlando is a popular play tonight proves my point. However, Memphis is 5-1 straight up in the last six meetings, and the Magic have lost four or their last five on the road. I'll be on the book's side for this one.

SAN DIEGO STATE +8.5: Now I have a lot of respect for BYU, but this is a lot of points to give an Aztecs team that is 14-4 SU, 9-6 ATS and 4-2 SU on the road. Besides, San Diego State has won three straight both SU and ATS, while BYU is just 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine lined games.

Missouri State -2.5: SIU has a huge game with Creighton this weekend, in which the ESPN Gameday crew will be on hand, but this is the tougher game for the Salukis. SIU's had the edge in this series over the last three seasons, winning 4 straight, but this year's MSU squad is better suited to defeat a lackluster SIU team that's fully dependent on Falker and Shaw on the offensive end.

NC State -2: Sooner or later the Wolfpacks' superior talent has to start translating into success on the court, and laying only a bucket at home against an ordinary Tech team is a good place to start.

Wash/Cleveland under 188 - I think Cleveland will again clamp down on D here, and keep the number under. Washington has shown an agreeability to low-scoring games when playing another team with that preference.

Houston/Seattle under 193.5 - With T-Mac back, I expect things to be slow and inefficient on offense for Houston, at least to start, and Seattle will probably also play an accident-prone game. I think this game will see shooting pcts under .400, and should stay under.

The Nets/Clippers game the other night was close until OT. Last night the nets got blown out. Kings will do the same with the Clippers.

Suns/Timberwolves over 213.5

The suns and warriors have the same type of run and gun offense with no defense. If Minn. can play the same way they did against GS this game will be high scoring.
