This will tell you how many teams that year were losing at the half and how many times the losing team won the 3rd quarter. In this example the losing team at the half won the 3rd quarter 709 times. The overall winning percentage was 53%. With juice figured in it's a tough call with very limited profits if any. The Database offers stats from 1995 on. From 1995 through 2009 here is how 3rd quarter wins and losses stack up for the team that was losing at halftime. Wins: 9698 -- Losses: 8764 Winning percentage 525% Not too good.
Those numbers may be even lower when you consider his original idea was to only pick dogs. If you want to bet quarters straight up with no labby or martingaling, I recommend getting stats on each team for all 4 quarters. Break down each quarter by winning % and avg. margin. You could even throw in avg. spread if you want. When you get a legitimate sample size, take every game and look for lopsided winning percentages for certain quarters. If you do it right you can hopefully filter the results for +EV plays. Some teams are horrible when playing with a large lead, which is another little wrinkle you could throw in. I'm working on a computer program right now that will read in all sorts of stats, including stuff for quarters. Hopefully by about late December there will be a decent enough sample size to work with.

Also, someone said 5dimes offers 3rd and 4th and takes them down at halftime...does anyone know if 5dimes offers lines for the 1st and 2nd quarters? I'm trying to think of as many ways to bet these as possible and I would prefer not to have to go through all kinds of scamming to get an account at bet365.

Thanks EH...more good ideas. Yeah, I thought about that too. The numbers I posted above showing all 3rd quarter wins and losses on teams losing at the half don't take into account all the extra dough you would lose when betting a 3rd quarter favorite with the ML. Dogs + points might indeed prove even less profitable.

I would think that in order to find a consistent relative average for team quarter scoring you would have to accumulate a sizable database. These databases are available at lots of online sports sites that include archives of past box scores going back many years. Good luck with your computer program. I'm sure hoping that it will be worth the work...but kudos for the effort either way.

    Yes, 5dimes offers 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th quarter betting at -110 BEFORE tip-off.
They offer 1st and 2nd quarter at tip-off as well but they do not offer 2nd quarter "In Play" betting directly after the 1st quarter ends. And they offer 4th quarter betting at halftime but not "In Play" betting directly after the 3rd quarter ends. Unless somebody can come up with a profitable way to mix or match quarters either before tip-off or at halftime then the whole idea of wagering on quarters BEFORE knowing the results of the previous quarter is kinda screwy if you ask me.

They only offer spreads though, no moneylines...so you may be having to lay points in some instances.

Hi guys first time posting in here.
Looks like a solid system this only if we could find any sportbooks that support this though.
So i have a question here regarding this quarter system for nba.
I have 3 books,betus,5dimes and betphoenix and none of them offers play on the 3rd or 4th quarter after play.
And recently i checked out Sportsbetting.com
and pinnacle sports, but neither of them supports this betting style.
So any ideas to wich book that really supports this?

Thanks for the input here guys, but i dont think 5dimes is a good book to folow if they only could allow one game for this system at any one time.
I see that bet365 was mentioned here, anybody knows if this book is reliable or not?

I just came across a proven statistic game by game on paper that for the past 4 years in the NBA, whichever team covers the first half, will ALSO cover the second half bet between 66-69% of the times over the past 4 years.

I'm sure that is mainly due to the fact that only losing bettors of the first half will try and salvage their losses on the same team at a better line in the second half. Usually winners of first half will not bet on the same team at a higher line, because they figure they already have money in the bank.

Bet365 is reliable as most B rated books (I think that's what they're rated). I have heard they limit you fast.

sportsbetting.com offers live updated quarters for nationally televised games. You may have to lay points in some cases but I think it could still work with the right money management.

Have you even been to Vegas? I haven't read the entire thread but as far as I know no Vegas book is allowing 3Q and 4Q bets once the game has started, not even during halftime. During halftime, second half bets are allowed, obviously, but not individual quarters.

What book were you betting at; a book way off the strip? I've been to quite a few and haven't seen it.

Curious is full of it. He has stated that all books in Vegas offer this. NO WAY! I live in Vegas, 16 years now. I have NEVER seen a book offer 3Q or 4Q bets once the game has started.

Come on, Curious. Give me the names of these books. I know a lot of book managers and ticket writers that will confirm you.

    Curious? Curious?

I contributed to this thread a few years back.
I have checked and rechecked back lines and quarter scores only to find that the system of play discussed in this thread is ABSOLUTELY RIFE with profit potential !!!

The only thing which stands in the way of capitalizing on this virtual 'free money' system is finding ANY established book that will take 4th quarter LIVE, in progress wagering at the end of the 3rd quarter.

We have already ascertained that there are several viable wagering opportunities available for the 1st and 3rd quarters.

However, after months of back testing I have come to the conclusion that in order for this to be a truly consistently profitable system one MUST have a way of LIVE betting the 4th quarter immediately following the end of the 3rd quarter.

In the course of this thread Curious stated that he made live 4th quarter bets all up and down Fremont Street in downtown Vegas. i'd ilke to know if this was true and if so is it still true and if so EXACTLY WHO ARE THE CASINOS that allow such wagers...please.

We already know that several very reliable books DO INDEED offer 4th quarter wagering but ONLY at halftime before the START of the 2nd half of play and NOT LIVE after the end of the 3rd quarter.

We have also learned that there are one or two sites (such as sportsbetting.com) that do offer these LIVE 4th quarter bets but we still come up short as they are rated as D- or worse OR that reputable sites like 5dimes and a few other sites offer only a small handful (1 or 2 games) of these 'IN PLAY' games once or twice a week.

We have also learned that the reputable site Bet365 offers a large quantity of these LIVE 4th quarter plays all the time, however as soon as you win two or three they limit your bets IMMEDIATELY to about $5.

So...In an attempt to resurrect this thread in hopes to find someone who may hold the proverbial 'golden key' as to ANYWHERE ( I don't care where it is...online, live brick and mortar casinos anywhere, sports book(s) in Las Vegas, or live betting parlors in the U.K. or anywhere else for that matter) IS THERE ANYWHERE THAT LIVE 4th quarter bets may be made regularly without fear of withholding payment or limiting your action to almost nothing I am posting this new post.

    Help or insights anyone?

After winning once or twice they IMMEDIATELY limit your wagers to $5, so no soap there.

Anyone else have some new info or insights on this?
