Who here thinks -5 is a dead number

just seems like whenever a team is -5 they almost never cover or loose outright. Am I way off on this one or is there some truth. I would have to check the stats to see if this has any merit, but what are your thoughts.

I find that -3.5 through -5.5 are the lines that most favor the dog. Basically handicappers are prediciting a very close game (under 3 possesions). In both NCAAB and NBA these lines seem favorable to the dawg, especially with a hot team that the public has not caught up with. I crushed in NCAAB with a bunch of +4s

I really don't ahve any stats to back that up. It is just my perception that -5 seems like a dead #. I was just curious if people thought that was somewhat accurate or if it was just me.

    I agree
to me- with no hard figures for backup

+1 through +5.5 favor the dog by alot
exactly +3 favors the favorite by alot
exactly +6 favors the favorite alot again

all predicated on the absolute latest closing number

I always learned that an opening # of 5.5 was what to look for. The dog wins half the time outright with this. I am getting lazy and didn't track it this year, but in the past that was the # right around 50%.

I didn't think about it but now that you mention it I recall it has happened many times. But i wouldn't say you should now bet every +5 play. I'll take Denver tonight and we will see if 5-pt dog does it again.
