    NBA Trivia (Scoring)

In the 3 point era only two players have scored 26 or more points in a span of 18 minutes or less.
One of them is Isaiah Thomas.

    Who is the other?

Don't think this answers the question, but Valanciunas had an incredible 4th quarter the other night against the 76ers.........I could be wrong, but I think he scored 20+ points in the 4th quarter alone.

He absolutely dominated and owned Embiid....it was incredible.

The more I think about this, I think the question is worded incorrectly, because I would imagine this happens several times a year.......probably multiple times a week.

Klay was the first one that popped into my mind too. But I think many have scored that much in OP’s timeframe.

Jordan or Kobe. Kobe scored 60 his last game and if my memory is correct he got about 40 of those in the 2nd Half, and I vividly remember he scored 15 in the last 3 minutes to beat Utah.

If you're talking game minutes, this is incorrect. Joe Johnson, Carmelo, Klay all scored 29 or more in a quarter

the only way it makes sense is if he is talking about real time minutes. but who tracks that?!?!

    ANALYSIS:

Valanciunas is a versatile offensive big who can occupy rim protectors like Joel Embiid on the defensive end, and the Raptors went to their secret weapon off the bench Wednesday with the 76ers in town. He delivered by keeping the 76ers defense in a torture chamber every chance he got, to the tune of a season-high 26 points. Valanciunas' performance marked just the second time in the three-point era that a player scored 26 or more points in 18 minutes or less. The only other player to do so was Isaiah Thomas, during the 2012-13 season. Hand-picked stats like this are fun and all, but from a fantasy perspective, Valanciunas will never be a reliable option just because of his rollercoaster role in the Raptors offense.

Has to be real time minutes, otherwise false. Everyone remembers Klay Thompson scoring 37 in the 3rd quarter in 2015.

    It's not that complicated.

It means the player didn't accumlate more than 18 mins the entire game combined. But still scored 26 pts or more. Not any one period of time.

Right, question should be 26+ points in 18 minutes or less playing time for the GAME.

Barkely had a HUGE quarter +/- 20 years ago. I want to say it was around 30 points. If I remember right, they talked about him passing (digging deep in the memory here) Sleepy Floyd. By now, some of the guys have probably passed Barkley's mark but at the time it was quite a feat.

i love the trivia even though it has massive "data mining" and "strange criteria" aspects to it.

when i think of alot of points in a very short period, i think TMAC........... maybe Jay Williams in college at Duke (vs. Maryland??)

I think the interesting aspect of the criteria for this bit of knowledge is that.

yes we know a star regular player that is basically playing 40+ mins a game for 80ish games a year is going to have those insane reggie miller and klay thompson type moments here and there.

but this stat speaks to the rarity of a bench guy that gets in, and gets lightning hot for a short period of time and doesn't warrant big minutes regularly so its even more of a surprise.

I think Nate Robinson had a lot of these type 10-15 points in 8-12 mins of play for the Bulls for a few seasons.
