Early tip (6:05 pm eastern) for Cavs v Raptors game two tomorrow -- anyone know why?

cannot remember the last time an NBA weekday playoff game tipped early than 7:05p eastern.

i cannot find the reason online for the early tipoff.

anyone know why the early tip?

doesn't really matter - i am just curious because it feels weird lol

No. it's philly v boston at 835pm eastern

maybe they are doing this to get two east coast games in on the same night.

still, it is extremely rare to have an east coast game tip off before 705p eastern time

i just answered my own question. they are doing this so there is no overlap between the games because Both of these games have tremendous interest from tv viewers hence the decision to not let them overlap (unless there is OT in the cavs v raptors game)

toler what i'm saying is that in my three decades watching the nba playoffs and living on the west coast i cannot recall a weekday playoff game tipping off at 3 pm. they have tipped at 4 pm pacific / 7 pm eastern on many occasions especially in the first round but to have a semis game tip at 3 pm pacific on a weekday is extremely extremely rare, so much so that i cannot recall the last time it happened

Really stupid after today the east and west games are on the same day. Used to be one of each for the most part. After the west series are over in 4 or 5, it'll look even dumber than it does now

For some weird reason, Bos/Phil series gets 2 days off between Games 1 and 2......without travelling.
    Just dont get it.

Simple reason- they wanna spread 2 Games apart for more viewers - Boston-sixers 2 1/2 hours later

no joke! i LOVE getting CFB early games at 9 am on sat's and NFL at 10 am on sun's -- it is THE BEST!!

back in summer 2008 i was in NYC when the lakers played the celtics in the finals. i was used to NBA finals games tipping off at 6 pm on the west coast. when they were tipping at 9 pm eastern time (games 1 and 2 in the boston garden) i was freaking out!!! it was crazy to be at a club with a drink in my hand, it's 11 pm, and there is NBA basketball going on.

absolutely surreal for a west coast guy like me lmao

Unless they delay the tip of the second game, the games will overlap anyhow. Like Laker boy said, the NHL has been doing this for years.

Ya another reason why nhl is dead last in America - auctually most nba Games is only 2 hour 1/2 max - Cavs game will be almost done when sixers/Boston tips off

actually Jay the cavs v raptors game will probably last 2.5 hours which means it will end (if in regulation) just as the philly v boston game is starting

Here's my theory: usa pop = 70% live east of Mississippi river. East coast series' getting better ratings than the mismatches in west. Nba wants max viewership for two east coast gms tomorrow so they want no overlap. Hence early tip at 6 pm eastern time for cavs v raptors

I bet u can find the nba tv ratings online and you'll see how low the
y are for gs and hou series. Two mismatches and the fans are tired of gs. In the east u have lebron haters tuning in and fans of philly n boston.east is just more competitive and interesting

I have no idea what the nhl is thinking sometimes. Twice during the playoffs this year they have had 3 games on a Saturday and they start two of them at 3 pm eastern. How does that make any sense?

NHL is very smart - their marketing people know what they're doing. they do not want to go H2H vs big NBA playoff games. they schedule around the NBA, not the other way around. i love the Lord Stanley Cup playoffs but year after year the last 20Y, the NBA has beaten them in TV ratings. so, the NHL is wise to it and schedules games to not oppose the NBA whenever possible

I get what you’re saying but both of these days the nba had 4 games that were spread out throughout the day. No matter when the nhl scheduled they would be going against a bball game so I don’t get why you’d want to put two at the exact same time when you have all day available. Even put a really early game on before the nba started.

good point. that does not make sense. i wish they would give some insight on the decision making process. better yet, put it to an online or mobile vote to the fans and let the fans decide how to stagger the games against the nba!

Seems like just odd scheduling. With 2 series in each conference you would think they could get 1 from each every night and just avoid the overlap naturally,

Not sure how ratings are collected, but would have to imagine not many will be watching the first quarter-half of this game.

It's in Toronto, so they want to be nice to their citizens and not have them go to bed past 9pm
