Today is Day 43, or Week 7, Day 1 of the NBA season.

Notes: Western Conference dominance?

All I heard during the offseason from the talking heads on television was how dominant the Western Conference was going to be this season over the Eastern Conference. They said all of best players moved were signing or traded to the Western Conference. Paul George and Carmelo Anthony were traded from teams in the East and landed at Oklahoma City in the West. Jimmy Butler was traded from Chicago in the East to Minnesota in the West.

I remember seeing a chart, I think on ESPN, showing 11 of the top 12 best players in the league residing in the Western Conference. Only King James from the East made that list. Giannis Antetokounmpo and John Wall were on the outside, looking in at this list.

So it must be surprising to those talking heads that after last Tuesday’s action, the Eastern Conference had 7 more wins than the Western Conference on the season. Now the West has 6 more wins than the East since then, so the margin has been cut a one-win advantage for the East.

Be that as it may, for what it is worth, 7 of the top 8 ATS teams in the league are from the East and 5 of those 7 teams are from the Atlantic Division. Boston is #1, Philadelphia #2, Brooklyn #4, New York #6 and Toronto #8.

Maybe the tide is turning now and the West will dominate the East the rest of the season. But for now, the East has more than held their own against the West to this point.

I do have my eye on one game for sure, no line posted, or there may have been a bet now, so I suspect I will have at least one play as I see at least one other possibility on the 5-game board, too.

Notes: I was originally looking at betting Milwaukee till I saw the 6.5 point line. It has since dropped to 5.5 because Khris Middleton is now questionable for the Bucks with an illness and is a game-time decision. Also like Miami as Cleveand is 0-3 ATS in back-ends of back-to-backs and 0-8-1 ATS at home this season.

Golden State / Orlando over 227.5, laying $110 to win $100 – The Magic have 5 straight Overs while the Warriors can go over 230 any game, any time. Golden State ranks #5 in Pace, while Orlando ranks #6 in Pace. The Warriors defensive numbers slipping slightly while their offensive ratings are still at the top of the league. Klay Thompson questionable for the Warriors, but since he is one of their top 2 defenders, if he misses the game, that helps the Over. I am grabbing this total now as I expect the number to go back up at some point during the day on Friday.

Notes: If Toronto blows out Indy and it stays under (like the last time Indy played where Houston blew them out and it stayed under) then I have to seriously look at playing team totals as Toronto would be the play there. I am tempted to bet the Detroit over as that is still a chart-play, too. I hesitate because the Wizards seem to be trending to the under now with Wall out as you have to discount their last game at Philly where they deliberately fouled Ben Simmons at Philly for quite a while in the 4Q, which turned an under game into an over only because of the 82-point 4Q due to all of the deliberate fouls. Charlotte killed to Under-9 streaks last week and also killed an Under-5 streak last time out and now have an opponent (Miami) with an Under-4 tonight. Can they kill yet another Under streak?
