The Portland Trail Blazers and free agent guard Archie Goodwin have agreed on a contract for the team’s upcoming training camp ahead of the 2017-18 season, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

For Goodwin, last season was split between the New Orleans Pelicans and Brooklyn Nets, where he served in a reserve role off the bench. He played in just three games with the Pelicans to begin the year, before he was waived, leading to a stint in the D-League (now G League) as a member of the Greensboro Swarm.

He would sign a 10-day contract with Brooklyn in March, which would eventually lead to a multi-year deal. He appeared in just 12 games with the team and averaged 7.9 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in just over 15 minutes per night. The Nets released him at the end of July.

Goodwin’s professional career began when he was selected in the first round (29th overall) of the 2013 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder, after just a single year spent at the University of Kentucky. He had his rights traded twice before landing with the Phoenix Suns, where he would spend the first three seasons of his NBA career. His best season came in 2015-16 when he made a career-high 13 starts and averaged 8.9 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

He now has an opportunity to join a loaded Portland backcourt that features Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum as the incumbent starters. The team dealt Allen Crabbe to Brooklyn earlier this summer, leaving a potential open spot for Goodwin to slide into and earn minutes off the bench should he make the team.
