LaMarcus Aldridge is done
I suspected this during that Grizzlies/Blazers series two years ago when he played like shit. Thought the Spurs got him at a decent price but never really liked the signing. Just felt like his best days were in the past.
As you can see tonight he's got nothing left in the tank. Can't play defense and is only useful when he's knocking down tough postup midrange shots. He's basically a fourth or fifth option these days.

It's not really a bad fit. He was the understudy to Duncan. He is just playing bad. Think it's more of a confidence thing than an actual decline, either way he needs to play better.
He's been in the league for 11 years now and has taken a pounding. Even though his game has always been more about shooting jumpers, he always has looked to draw contact. There are other reasons the Spurs are down by 30 (you can't start David Lee in a series like this) but Aldridge is cooked.
Don't be fooled. The Spurs don't even look to go to Aldridge anymore for offense. It's all on Kawhi.

Yes, when he was 26-29 years old. He's nearly 32 now. He had a nice career. He's basically 2014 David West now.
I think you're right. He will be better than this next year, but his days of being an all-star are over. West is a good comparison. Spurs are going to be in trouble until they add some youth.

What talent? He's never been a freak athletically. Never been a 12-14 rebounds per game guy. Just always had a silky smooth jumpshot and routinely scored 20-25 ppg. He has always taken a lot of tough fadeaways.

He might have a very good game but over the long haul, he can't give the Spurs what they need.

Part of the problem is that he's very reliant on jumpers and for some reason it seems like they have gone away from LMA mid range jumpers compared to previous years. I saw him pass up an open mid range shot that he has hit with consistency for several years and was shocked.
To me, it's more a confidence thing than a decline. He's not THAT old.
The decline of Parker is a contributing factor since he's the one that would be setting him up for those pocket shots. Leonard can do that but he tends to look for the midrange pull-up more (he's good at it). Obviously 7 shot attempts isn't going to do it.

It depends who is guarding him.
If it's Durant, Aldridge can back him down. If it's Green, he'll have a much harder time. Aldridge doesn't do well against physical defenders.
