Jan 30 - The Daily Breakdown

    YTD 12-8 +7.45u
    NHL 8-3 (+8.85u)
    NBA 4-4 (+0.80u)
    NFL 0-1 (-2.20u)

Day off yesterday. Let's get it.

Sacramento Kings vs. Philadelphia 76ers // Jan 30

    Tip-off
Just because they aren’t a pair of great teams, doesn’t mean they don’t have anything to fight for. The Sacramento Kings (19-28) of the Western Conference and the Philadelphia 76ers (17-29) of the Eastern Conference are near the bottom of their respected conferences. But that doesn’t mean they are out of postseason contention in the top-heavy NBA.

    Purple crown

The Kings face the Sixers in the seventh game of their eight-game road trip. After a sluggish 0-2 start to the trip, the Kings have rebounded and have won three out of their last four games. The current string of road wins has given the Kings a respectable 11-15 record while away from home.

The results are largely due to their offensive output; in each of the last four games they have scored 109 points or more. But the improvement in scoring still doesn’t take away from the fact that the Kings are a nightmare on defence and have given up an average of nearly 106 points per game—which is 21st in the league.

In an up-and-down season for the Kings, DeMarcus Cousins has been the constant bright spot. He is fourth in the NBA in scoring, averaging just over 28 points per game. And the Kings have to lean on him now more than ever with the season-ending injury to Rudy Gay early last week.

    Brotherly love

Although they still have a young squad and a lot of ground to make up in the Eastern Conference, the Sixers emerged as a new team in 2017. It was by far the team’s most positive month in recent history. The Sixers are 10-5 in their last 15 and—although they have lost two games in row—the team should be optimistic with where they are headed during the second half of the season.

Just like the Kings and their play on the road, the Sixers have been good but not great while at home. They are 11-15 on home court this season. The Sixers are 2-2 in their last four games, but what should get fans excited is that they are putting up points. They have averaged over 115 points per game during that stretch and that is welcome news for a team that ranks 25th in overall scoring with 100.4 points per game.

    The Final Breakdown

Embed is marked as questionable for tonights game. Assuming he doesn't play, the 76ers would be in for a tough back to back matchup, but that doesn't matter. Sacramento are 5-12 in their last 17 vs. Philly and only 4-7 on the road. Philly has been 3-2 ATS on a back to back. I'm sticking with Philly on this one.

    Philadelphia 76ers +2.5 (-110) 1u
