Two men have been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Nykea Aldridge, the cousin of Chicago Bulls star Dwyane Wade.

According to police, Aldridge was not the target of the shooters, brothers Darwin Sorrells Jr. and Derren Sorrells, 22, who were shooting at a third man.

The brothers have also been charged with attempted murder. Police are currently investigating if the incident was an attempted robbery.​

Aldridge was shot as she was pushing her baby in a stroller near a school. The child was not harmed in the incident.

The city of Chicago is currently in the midst of a gun violence epidemic that is the worst in a decade. 441 people had been killed between the start of the year and Aug. 21, more than a 50 percent increase over the same period in 2015.

As someone that grew up in the Chicago metro area this is sadly a common occurrence in the hood parts of the city. It just so happens that poor Nykea Aldridge's cousin is a famous ball player. Just because Dwyane Wade has money doesn't mean that he can buy all his cousins & crew nice cribs in the suburbs unfortunately. That's the kind of thing that puts ex-ball players in the poor house.

I have made the point a million times that instead of the useless gun control mania going on, that the real causes of gun violence go without thought. If guns are ruining our society, why do people convicted of gun crimes get out??? Everyone says how bad it is, so start sentencing it that way. That applies to all violent crime. Clear the jails of all non violent people and let them wear the ankle bracelets. Gun control is the lazy, phony and totally ineffective way of dealing with it.
