Should Hawks Trade for Russell Westbrook?

Hawks could win the East with proven winners like Howard and Milsap and Westbrook. Durant was the cancer that didn't let Westbrook win a championship. Hawks could be a force to be reckoned with if they trade for Westbrook.

Dennis Schroeder and draft picks. Dennis a young version of Russell still unpolished.

OKC will have trouble getting much back in return for Westbrook

He's already said he won't sign an extension this year, it just wouldn't make sense

Only two teams that might trade for him because they have realistic chance at keeping him would be the Clippers and Spurs

What exactly are he Spurs going to be able trade OKC for Westbrook? They don't have any good draft picks. They aren't trading any of their stars either.

You really think Westbrook's style would fit in there?

It really doesn't make sense for anyone to trade for him, unless they think they can contend this year, because he will be a free agent next season

Ya, I agree. Im honestly not sure what the Spurs have or don't have

As foe Russ being a good fit, I think he would be a pretty good fit there. An explosive scorer that other bigs have to respect and stay close to the rim, really opens up the mid range game for Leonard and Aldridge much like it did for Ibaka

I think the biggest problem in OKC was that Brooks was more than content to just let KD and Russ run the show 1on1 and play iso ball, the Spurs dont work that way. I think Pops can blend Westbrook in nicely, still allowing him to be explosive and attack while tea hing him how to work within an offense that is based on ball movement

Plus, RW is a natural passer, I do believe he led the playoff teams in assists/game

So overall I think the Spurs would gladly take him on, just not sure what they have to give back

    Maybe Parker, Ginobli and Duncan

Why would you want Russ if you have a younger, cheaper version?

Nobody gives a flying fukk about the Atlanta Hawks. Why do you keep starting threads about them? Don't see me starting threads about the Mavs.

Boston or the clippers seem like the only realistic options.

The Lakers have some young players were burned by Dwight Howard in a similar situation, of course Westbrook loves la but he may want to kill himself after a season with such bums. Seems like a big gamble but I could see this if the thunder like any of the young guys since they don't have any picks.

PAVY...you lost me in the original post when you stated HOWARD a proven winner...

Quite possibly the most asinine statement I have ever read regarding an NBA player.

Only Dwight himself, his Mom, and his 7 or so baby mamas on his payroll think he is a winner.

This seems like one of the few fits. They have the picks and space. He would have to agree to some kind of extension before any team gives up something real and other teams with picks suck.

The only way OKC gets some leverage out of this IMO is to get a list of teams from Russ and let them bid it out before the trade deadline. Otherwise he just waits for his own free agent tour right?

What are the other options? Teams giving up something small for a chance at a rental?

I could see Boston giving up Isiah, Crawford, Smart and maybe two future first round picks for Westbrook. Isiah is good, but Westbrook is franchise and a top 5 NBA player. Westbrook and Harford equals Eastern Conference finals.

Just like Lebron, Carmelo, Dwight (long term), Durant, Horford, Love, Paul, etc.......

Laker fans do realize that Shaq was the last great free agent in Laker history. Over the hill Payton and Karl Malone don't count.

This trade makes sense for both teams. Westbrook needs to play for a contender in the East and the Hawks are a perfect fit. Hawks are one signing away from building a dynasty.

Whoever gets Westbrook has to trade away a boatload of picks plus have a good enough team to make Westbrook want to sign with them in 2017. Boston is the only team I know that has the talent already there to make Westbrook the final piece, they could probably throw in Smart with Brooklyn's 2018 unprotected pick and the opportunity to flip places with the Nets in 2017. Plus the first round picks in 2019 from the Clippers and Memphis, plus three second round picks in 2017 from Cleveland, the Clippers and Minnesota. 3 first round picks, 3 second round picks, the flip with the Nets next year plus Smart. That sounds just about right for Westbrook.
