Where does Allen Iverson rank among the best in the game?

Was Allen Iverson top 10? top 25? top 50?
The guy had ankle breaking moves unlike any other. He won the scoring title 4 times, and was an all-star 11 years in a row. The man could just score. Too bad he never had anyone good on his team.

Wow, that guy was exciting watch. The NBA from 2000-2009 was probably it's best years.

His one negative was that didn't have height; after awhile opponents would slam him when he tried to drive in. He definitely had great skills.

Height wasnt a negative for him, he had long arms, super quick twitch muscle fibers and immense leaping ability. Everyone gets slammed to the ground in the pros if they keep getting to the rim scoring, attacking relentlessly. Happened to Jordan and even Blake Griffin, after a few years players realize you cant do what you did in high school and college repeatedly because other guys are athletic, players arnt going to consistently let you get away with it and also the pounding isnt worth it, so they become better perimeter shooters and pick their spots when to go inside. Behind MJ, Iverson was my most favorite to watch, those guys.

    As a Player? Top 30.

As a Champion? No where to rank him.

Players in the NBA are measured by their rings, although he's up there as one of the most exciting players to step on the hardwood.

The Sixers never spent one penny for him when he played there.

He sold the place out all by himself.

He was THAT fun to watch.
He was never given much help because he made the franchise hundreds of millions and they didn't have to add anyone to make the money.
He didn't get a chance to cheat like Lebron and pick his team.
    Jordan had Pippen.
    Kobe had Shaq.
    Shaq had D-wade.
He made it to a fukkin NBA finals with Mutombo and Eric Snow lol.
Felt so bad for him when the Lakers pummeled them.

AI probably would have been a top 10 all-time player was he not on such a shitty franchise.
His %'s could have been a bit higher if he had a lighter load.
He had more heart than anyone in the game other than Jordan.
Still has to easily be in the top 25 though.

    good points
my problem with him is some of the off court rhetoric might have interfered with him bringing together a better team

On Ai's side, I will say that I remember when people compared watching him to Shaq. People would say they loved watching AI because of his quickness and his ability to cover the court. People said Shaq was boring to watch because he was just this huge blob that couldn't move very fast.

AI was very exciting to watch courtside.

Quickest player I've ever seen. Modern day guys like Wall & Lawson are very fast, but AI was lightning & playing back then against a lower standard of fitness/athleticism, he just carved mo fo's up. I remember one play where AI got the defensive rebound, fast break down court & quick lay up, and the other teams centre was still standing under the rim back down the other end, having taken maybe 2 steps...

Also his crossover dribble was arguably the best ever, probably only Tim Hardaway that was on AI's level, but AI was jus nasty, breaking ankles every other night.

AI played with a lot of guys whose production slipped and dipped when they were teammates of HIS. Here is a small sample of good not great players who played with AI and had subpar seasons. Stackhouse, Webber, Jimmy Jackson, Carmelo, finals MVP Andre Igudola, Toni kukoc, Andre Miller, Keith Van Horn, Derrick Coleman, dikembe motumbo, Derrick mckey, Theo Ratliff, Tyrone Hill, Scott Williams, Bruce Bowen, Larry Hughes, Billy Owens, nazr Mohammad, and the list goes on. ALL of these players were either an ALL star at some point in their careers or NBA champion..........yet none of them were an ALL star or champion playing with AI except Carmelo. What does that tell you about AI?????????

Exciting to watch but overrated like many shoot first guys.

Top 5 in Field goal attempts per game in 10 of his first twelve seasons.

His highest ppg came in a year in which he attempted 27.8 field goals per game, shot 39.8% from the field and 29.1% from 3.

Yes he could score but he is a great example of a player for whom we forget the misses and remember the makes.

His offensive efficiency was never very good. Kobe was the same kind of player but was much more efficient than AI.

If AI traded places with Kobe and spent his career in LA, he would have more rings then kobe and would easily be in the top 10 all time discussions. Would have never ran Shaq out of town and would have just kept on winning.

Instead he got to play with Todd MacCulloch, who is now a professional pinball player

Players talk = Sports talk. It's a forum with many sub-forums; if you want to just talk about betting, well there are plenty of just betting sub-forums that cover each sport, if that is what you are looking for. Not sure why you keep checking in on this thread and posting in it if you want nothing to do with it.

For a year or two and in his prime with the 76ers I would say he was among the very best ever.. He carried that team to the championship finals on his back but lost to the Lakers..

I'd remember him as being a cross between Step Curry and James Harden but quicker and arguably a better defender then both.. He was fearless going to the hoop, had crazy handles and a deadly crossover, he also was a deadly shooter when he got going... He was the full package at point for those couple years....

Iverson created space for bad shots. He was not a good jump shooter by any measure.

iverson never had a durant, or kobe or shaque or wade/bosh etc.

he is a good player but philadelphias mistake was not getting him a complete cast around him.

put iverson in place of kboe with shaque in lakers or iverson in place of lebron in miami or iverson even in place of westbrook in oklahoma and he would have won ring everytime.
