The NBA should consider going down to 24 teams or less

And cut the season to 50-60 games...some of these games are not even worth watching....some teams and players don't deserve to be in the NBA

they could immediately dissolve Utah, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Charlotte, Orlando, Sacramento and no one would even notice.

also, no point in watching reg season games when playoffs run 2 months.

Would improve the product if they changed the draft process. First off, the 3 worst teams should not be allowed to participate. Get your stuff together, and spend some money on some real players. We'll let you in then. Second, give all the teams one ping pong ball, and make the draft a lottery every year in the first round for everybody. Yes, San Antonio would have a shot at the first pick. That takes the tanking plan away. Owners are forced to attempt to put a semi-quality product on the court.

I'd have to agree. And WNCAAB can go down to eight teams for its tourney too!

you're missing the much larger issue, which is.. there aren't nearly enough quality players to choose from in order to fill all these rosters. that, of course, has to do with the disastrous shape of amateur basketball in America across the board, but that's a different discussion..

as a result, however, the draft has become increasingly meaningless. so while your idea would be a cool one if the league was actually flooded with legit talent, that no longer applies.

the only sure fire way to dramatically improve the NBA is to dissolve anywhere from 6-10 current teams.

the new NBA commish is a very smart guy....they wouldn't get rid of the teams because of money and would not shorten the season because of money also....I wonder what the attendance is like from year to year to see if its trending down I cant see anyone wanting to go to see half these games

I understand that, but you have to face reality. it ain't ever going to happen. If a city won't support a team, there is always another one to snatch one up. The NBA will keep making their money with the current format. I believe there are enough players out there. The NBA is a global entity. Surely in a world fielding over 6 billion people, we can find 450 that can legitimately entertain us. Teams just have to get proper management to find them, and coach them properly.

Teams get one timeout per quarter, one TV timeout. Way too many stoppages in play. The flow is becoming similar to that of baseball. Especially the last few minutes of the game.

Any time there is a foul, the team that got fouled gets to pick who shoots the free throws. That should cut out at least half of the fouls. Speeds up the game. No blood, no foul.

Make atleast half the players white. It's called affirmative action.

Is there though? Sure, Seattle wants a team back, but can you name another decent market who both wants a team and could legitimately support one medium to long-term?

Utah, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Charlotte, Orlando, Sacramento all should be gone. Next group to sift through.. Detroit, Cleveland, Atlanta, Miami.

You were doing a great job improving the product until that last statement.

...but they won't be. So why pursue this argument?

What they need is split it to 24 teams in 1st division and 8 teams in 2nd division. Best 2 in 2nd division promoted to 1st and worst 2 in 1st relegated to 2nd. Then you won't see teams tanking games because of financial implications.
