Where does Steve Nash rank all time?

Nash just jumped to third all time on the assists list. I know that itself doesnt mean much since he passed Mark There-goes-that-man Jackson. But he has two MVPs and is a first ballet, yet ringless, HOFer.

Is he the best PG of all time? Top 5?

If I had a kid who played ball, I'd probably want him or her to watch him....pass first guy who never beat his chest or stared down opponents. He used his head. Has a great shot. Survived till 41.

Offensively he was a great PG who defines the position. His passing and shooting using the pick and roll over the years has been amazing to watch. But his defense is almost just as bad which is why he's never done anything in the post season. Defense is half the game, so no way could I put him in the top 5.

Nash definitely not top 5 and its not even close. In the top 10 for sure though.

    Magic
    Stockton
    Isaiah Thomas
    Oscar Robertson
    Jason Kidd

I was going to say top 5 for sure, but that's a strong list. I might move him over Kidd, though.

He has to be in the top 5. I always admired his play. Wish he wasn't old. Guy was one of my favorites to watch when he was in his prime.

His defense keeps him from cracking the top 5.

A very good pg in his prime who collected big pay checks after he should have. All time is debatable.

Can't put Nasher above any of those guys. Solid 6th in my opinion though.

I was goin to use the argument that he never played with anyone good which is why he didnt win a ring. But thats also what I liked about him. He never put down his teammates, demanded trades, or tried to join a super team and call it winning.

Im going to have to go with modern day PGs because I was born in the 70s.
    Magic
    Nash
    Stockton
    Kidd

It just seemed like you could plug Magic or Nash in any team and everyone stats would skyrocket. They were the engines of the offense. I saw Doc Rivers the other day talking about the hockey assist and thats what great PGs do that doesnt show up in the stats. Maybe that's what it was. Nash put the ball ahead to the right guy every time. He didnt need to keep it until he got set for the pickn roll. You think of Stockton and you thing of half court set and him threadin the needle to Malone. I think of Nash and think outlet pass out of the back court for the highest % bucket. Kidd had some seasons like that too but didnt work it from all angles imo.

On defense, Stockton and Payton and Kidd? Its hard to factor that in when a team averages 20 more points per game. Then they added the zone D after Magic and Stockton. No excuses for Nash though, he wasnt quick enough 1v1 to play all star D.

    COUSY.

OSCAR not really a PG, definately would be a 2.

Nash was great, but both MVPs very suspect.

The list starts with Magic, then the debate begins.

Yea MVPs are the weirdest award in sports IMO. It's meaning changes all the time. MJ should have had 5-8 of them.
