    TheChancellor's NBA Teasers (09-10)

Alright, so with this being my first post, I figured I may as well introduce myself along with my horrible history of betting outside of sportsbooks.

I've always made bets on Pro-line. Always. I'm not an informed sports gambler by any means. I knew the sportsbooks existed but was never really comfortable with betting large sums of money. I became accustomed to Pro-line's system and now, after seeing the wager options offered by sportsbooks, I realize now that Pro-line is a complete waste of money and there's really no hope to make a profit by playing it daily.

So, to sum up my journey here. I was looking for different opinions on some games I was wagering on (with Pro-line, of course) and stumbled upon this site. I also noticed the top ranked sportsbook was Pinnacle, and so I joined. Since then, I've made a few bets on the NBA (all teasers), and now my record stands at 11-2. So I figured why not have some fun with it?

You'll all notice that my bets are teasers. I see a lot of people say parlays/teasers are sucker bets, and while that may be true, this is what I'm use to. For me, I've always been so close with spreads that the teasers are a perfect fit for the way I bet. So I'm gonna ride this train for a while.

The plan is to start small, VERY small, and eventually build up the account to have a big enough cushion to comfortably risk $100+ on a game. The amount that I'm betting on the games now is laughable, so I won't bother posting the actual amounts I'm wagering..

So for today... (Nov. 29th) 4 -game, 4 pt Teaser.

Orlando Magic (-2) vs New York Knicks for Game (-105)

I'm not a huge fan of betting on teams playing back-to-backs, especially with the way the Magic played last night. Thing is... they've won 5 straight on the road and I can't see that streak being snapped by a team whose record is 1-7 at home. Orlando has played horribly in the first half the last two games, but that was against teams with decent records. I can't see the same thing happening against the Knicks. The Knicks just don't have the size to battle Dwight down low and look for Rashard to create matchup problems for a porous Knicks D.

Boston Celtics (+0.5) vs Miami Heat for Game (-102)

Boston's offense have been rolling lately, while their defense has left more to be desired. That doesn't matter against the Heat though, as they don't really have great scorers to contend with Boston's D. This is the first game of Boston's road trip and I'm gonna ride them before the trip takes its toll on them. The Big 3 or Dwyane Wade? Hmm...

Philadelphia 76ers vs San Antonio Spurs (-6) for Game (+101)

Lou Williams is out for 2 months, and they have a rookie taking the helm in his stead. When you have a rookie running the offense against a veteran team like the Spurs (who, mind you, is at home AND healthy) you're gonna run into problems.

New Jersey Nets vs Los Angeles Lakers (-10) for Game (-102)

They're saying this is the last game for Coach Lawrence Frank, and what a way to go. The Lakers WILL win this game, and I see it being a blowout by the start of the 2nd quarter.

The odds are 3 to 1 with these picks. Wish me luck.

So far so good on these picks. Just gotta get LA to cover. Should be a lock though. I also put in another pick adding Houston +7 (which has already won) along with Denver -10, which I'm a little nervous about...

Yes. All teasers, and nothing else. I know that when people make such claims as I have, others get a little skeptical. If anyone wants proof, I have no problem attaching images of my graded bets from Pinnacle. Just let me know.

Here are my teasers for tonight.

    3 Team, 4 pt Teaser

Chicago Bulls (+7) vs Milwaukee Bucks for Game (-105)

I see a lot of people leaning on Milwaukee, and that's understandable. But teams are taking Jennings a lot more seriously now and without Redd and Bogut to shoulder the scoring load tonight, look for the Bulls to keep it close. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bulls win tonight.

(Edit: Apparently, Bogut may be a surprise start tonight. Had I known that before, I would have stayed away from this game, but I'll have to stick to my guns)

Philadelphia 76ers vs Dallas Mavericks (-6.5) for Game (-109)

Love betting against Philly in this spot. I'm taking the Mavericks for the same reason I took the Spurs last night. "No Lou Williams/Rookie running Sixers offense". Throw in the "second of a back-to-back away game" factor for Philly and the Mavs look that much better.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Utah Jazz (-5.5) for Game (-105)

The Jazz are looking like the team of last year where they were dominating at home. The slump's done. I hate betting against Memphis because they have so many weapons on offense, but I'll take my chances seeing how they're another team that's playing the second of a back-to-back away game. Tough spot for the Grizz.

Odds are 9 to 5 with these picks.

Bulls cover. Watching the other two games right now. A little worried about Dallas right now, but Utah should be rolling over Memphis for the rest of the night.

Dallas was up 9 with 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter... Philly just tied it with 5 secs left. 3 pointer by Iggy. Here's hoping they go into overtime so Dallas has a chance to cover... Wish me luck guys.

Naw, small amounts right now. I can't really see myself betting big bucks on multiple games....

*&%$... Just watched Terry hit a near buzzer beater to pretty much win the game, unless Philly gets a miracle... I need them to go into OT. Terry screwed me over.

Man, watching that Dallas game last night had me in tears. They had a total meltdown in the last 4 minutes and had two ridiculous turnovers that lead to 4 quick points. Watching that happen almost had me in tears. I'm gonna give it another go today though.

    3 Team, 4.5 pt Teaser

Boston Celtics (+1) vs Charlotte Bobcats for Game (-105)

Bobcats are on a roll and everyone seems skeptical of this game because of this. I know a lot of people are probably gonna stay away from this one, but this is a no-brainer to me. Both these teams are on a 4 game win streak and each of them will come prepared for one another. I would normally expect the Celtics to be in a let-down spot, but I don't see it here. Charlotte has a history of playing well against the Celtics but I can't see a frail Tyson Chandler and an under-sized Diaw banging in the paint with guys like Perkins, Garnett, and Sheed. The big men are going to dominate this game and that should be the difference. I'm thankful that I have the Celtics at +1.

Phoenix Suns (-2.5) vs New York Knicks for Game (-103)

The only teams that have a shot against the Suns are those who emphasize defense. New York is going to try and outscore the Suns and I just don't see that happening with the way the Suns are shooting.

Golden State Warriors vs Denver Nuggets (-8.5) for Game (-105)

Nervous about the spread here, but I figured "what the heck." Some points to list...

    - Warriors are going into the second of a back-to-back game.
    - They're making a trip from the east to the west.
    - They're playing in Denver (tough conditions).
    - They're playing a team that's 7-1 at home.
    - Denver lost to Minnesota last game (revenge).

    You get the idea...

New Orleans Hornets vs Los Angeles Lakers (-9) for Game (-102)

What's not to love about the Lakers when they play at home with a healthy lineup? I'm always worried about teams covering 10+ spreads, but I'll roll the dice here. For the Hornets to even have a hope of keeping up with the Lakers, they'll need Chris Paul. Unfortunately, he's not playing tonight. lol.

    Odds are 3 to 1.

Nice writeup - although I think the warriors played at home last night. Their trip is only from GS to Denver.

ONLY???? the trip is only about a 2 hour flight AND 5280 feet up. Playing at sea level the night before playing in Denver at altitude is usually a recipe for exhaustion. BE CAREFUL WITH THIS ONE.

Very good points - I just realized that Indianapolis is almost as close to Denver as Oakland is. East to West is also worse than West to East (depending on the start time of the game).

Went 3 and 1 last night. The Knicks must've had some of that "Secret Michael Jordan Water" from space jam before the game. I don't know where that outburst came from. I must say though, even though it meant a loss, it was fun to watch.

That puts me at 9-2 so far for posted picks. And thanks to a Celtics win, I got my bankroll to a point where I felt comfortable betting $100 bucks on the ML. Flipped my Celtics win and put it on San Jose. Ching Ching!

    So for tonight...

    5 Team, 4 pt Teaser

Toronto Raptors vs Atlanta Hawks (-4.5) for Game (-106)

I live in Canada, so there are a LOT of Raptor fans here. Nothing pleases me more than to bet against them. I hate the Raptors. Why? I don't have a good reason why. I just can't stand how people down here think so highly of them. The Raptors suck, and I guarantee they will never get a championship for as long as I'm on this earth (assuming I live past the average male life expectancy). Rant over...

Atlanta is playing very well lately and I just don't see them slowing down any time soon, especially against the Raptors at home. Bibby was questionable for tonight but it is confirmed that he'll be in the lineup. Statistically he's not having a very good year, but he's still an outside threat. I see Bibby busting Jose tonight. It's well known that the Raptors just don't play D, and with as many weapons as the Hawks have, I can't see the Raps keeping up tonight.

Dallas Mavericks (-3) vs New Jersey Nets for Game (+103)

    ... (Literally...)

Detroit Pistons vs Chicago Bulls (-3.5) for Game (+103)

My instincts tell me to stay away from this game, but I pulled the trigger anyway. Detroit's rotation is dwindling with injuries to 4 of their 5 starters. It's said that Ben Gordon and Charlie V are traveling with the team, and there's an outside chance that they'll play, but I can't see them having much of an impact even if they're on the court. Gordon had an ankle sprain and I think he'll be slightly inhibited because of it, IF he plays. Chicago's won 6 straight at home against Detroit.

Memphis Grizzlies (+1.5) vs Minnesota Timberwolves for Game (+102)

Tough game. Memphis is on the road again, but they're against one of the worst teams in the NBA. Rudy Gay SHOULD be back in time for this game, and I'm thinking they'll play the way they played against Portland last week. Gasol and Randolph are going to be dangerous in this one.

Houston Rockets vs Los Angeles Clippers (+6.5) for Game (+101)

I see the Clippers winning this game. They're at home, and Houston is without their only inside scorer. Yes, Landry is averaging 15 points a game. But if you watch the games, they're mostly hustle points. Landry doesn't have the ability to create his own shot like Scola can, and that'll hurt the Rockets tonight. On top of that, the Rockets' big men are undersized (Landry - 6'9" and Hayes - 6'6"), and they're gonna be trying to grab boards against two 7 footers. I'm not liking Houston's chances here.

[EDIT] WTF is with all these surprises? Turns out Scola is in the lineup for tonight. They just decided late this afternoon, long after I put in my wager. If I could, I would cancel this pick, but I guess I'll have to roll the dice once again.

Odds are 9 to 2 with these picks.

Alrighty. Was a little worried about that Grizz vs. Wolves game, but Ramon Sessions pulled through with a missed free throw. Beautiful. All I need are the Clips to cover.

    Picks & Write-ups for tonight.

I'm gonna try and ease up on the 4 and 5 team parlays for the sake of my record. I honestly love taking the risk to hit 5 of 5, but if I'm going to be posting bets, may as well try and be a successful as possible with the picks.

    3 Team, 4 1/2 pt Teaser

Boston Celtics (+5.5) vs San Antonio Spurs for Game (-111)

Both these teams are hot right now, and you have to give the Spurs an edge because they're at home. However, I think this will be a close game from start to finish, and I just couldn't resist picking the Celtics as a 5 point underdog. Celtics could take this tonight.

Houston Rockets (+1.5) vs Golden State Warriors for Game (-105)

I hate betting on teams playing the second of back-to-back away games, but I'll roll the dice any day against a team lacking defense. Word has it that Monta missed the shoot around this morning because of an illness. He's still listed to start but you have to think he left his A game behind. Don Nelson is also back after missing a few games. After having a solid roation for a bit, the Warriors go back to having their minutes juggled. Look for Don to take a Loss in his first game back.

Miami Heat vs Denver Nuggets (-4.5) for Game (-101)

Gonna roll with history on this. Denver is 10-3 against Miami since 2003, and 6-0 at home. Only reason I'm rolling with the Nuggets is because I find it hard to explain how the Heat will change this trend. They probably won't...

Odds are 1 to 1. Putting these in because the ML's are a little steep for me.

Well my strategy worked... I think I'm gonna stick with just 2-3 game teasers from now on, no more than that.

Also, I gotta take a moment to praise a capper who's been on a serious roll lately. Robert Ferringo. Take a look at the service plays and follow this guy, he's amazing. He's running at 70% in his last hundred or so selections. He knows his stuff. I tailed all his straight bets last night and he went 5-1, 3-3 on his 2 unit plays. Amazing.

And that puts me at 3-2 for teasers so far. Not a great start, but at least I'm up. Gonna post another one in a bit.

Alright, forgot to document the picks last night so I'll have to exclude those picks out of the overall record. Props to the Nets getting their win last night, even though they cost me money... lol

    Anyway, for today.

    3 Team, 4.5 pt Teaser

Toronto Raptors vs Chicago Bulls (-1.5) for Game (-105)

Chicago boasts one heck of a home record considering what it is overall. Both these teams are playing back-to-back games but I gotta give the edge to Chicago considering the weapons they have in the backcourt, and Toronto's lackluster D. I also LOVE the idea of Jose Calderon (perhaps the NBA's worst defender) matching up against Derrick Rose. I can't see the Raptors winning two in a row in back-to-back away games.

Utah Jazz (-3) vs Minnesota Timberwolves for Game (-104)

You take away that win over Denver and suddenly the Wolves don't look as great. I think it was a total fluke and I'm going to completely disregard that game when it comes to betting on Minnesota's games. Utah has been rolling lately and although they're just finishing a long home stand, I don't see them slowing down any time soon. Boozer is playing like a man possessed and Okur looked good last night after coming back from a chest injury. Look for Deron to make fools out of a young backcourt.

Orlando Magic (-4) vs Golden State Warriors for Game (-102)

I hate using the term "lock". But if I had to use it, it would be on this game. Golden State likes to go small and won't have an answer for Dwight. Unless they shoot 50+% from the field and hit all of their free throws, they're not gonna win this game. Orlando is gonna slow the game down and GS isn't going to have the time to put enough points on the board to come away with a win.

Odds are 9-5. Wagering $27 to win $50.
