SBR will give the winner of the March Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest a sparkling new 19-inch LCD DVI Monitor! For those of you unfamiliar with the contest, here are the rules:


Post your 2 best basketball plays each day, NBA and CBB full-game Sides & Totals allowed only, no halves. Same game Side/Total parlays are ok. You have until five minutes before tip time of your first game to post the selections. Also note that all plays will now be graded against a uniform line! I will post the lines from Pinnacle at approximately 11 AM ET each day. Those of you wishing to make selections before then may do so without posting your lines, and they will be graded against my posted lines.

All parlays will be graded as 10.00 to win 26.00, and I will keep two sets of standings: the Official Standings will be based on parlay units won/lost, and the secondary standings will be on a game-by-game basis ranked by winning percentage.

The Catch: You must have SOME ANALYSIS for each play. Only needs to be one sentence, no big deal, although full paragraphs are ok too. Plays submitted with no analysis will NOT COUNT toward standings.

The player with the most units won after the games of March 31 will win the winner-take-all grand prize. Note that you must play at least 15 days (30 plays) during the month to qualify for the prize! In case of a tie in units, the tiebreaker will be the better winning percentage. If still tied, the contest will be extended with the tied players making one parlay selection per day at the start of April until the tie is broken. NO PASSES will be allowed during this extension period, and any of the tied players doing so will be eliminated regardless of the other player(s) results for that day.

Playing in the Carrier Dome should be worth 4-5 points, hoping the Orange can make up the rest of difference on their own to get a cover in this one.

Love the handful of points with a team that is "more than capable" of winning outright & has been playing well.

Confidence builder coming off rd win @SA adding to an already stellar rd record, & headed for a matchup where they own a good record vs NO. BOS 8-2 ATS vs team w/losing record 2nd half of season & will look to end a short 3 gm rd stretch w/1 day rest on a positive note.

[Wassymac]

San Diego St +7.5 My darkhorse to win the whole thing after they went to Missouri St and got the W. I can't imagine the 'Cuse putting out any more effort than their last lackluster performance against S. Bama. Heath and company get it done here.

Kansas St -4.5 Short enough number for me to fade a team that can go 10+ minutes without a bucket. Hopefully KState will shoot a bit better than 7-19 from the line and Huggy Bear gets this team to New York.

Mississippi/Clemson Under 139: The Tigers are allowing just 62.9 points per game in this building this season, with the Under going a profitable 11-6 in those games. This defense was in full display in the opening round of this tournament, a low-scoring 64-57 triumph over East Tennessee State. Now the Rebels had some defensive issues earlier this season, but they have improved quite a bit lately, limiting their last five opponents to only 40.0 percent shooting from the floor. Throw in the naturally increased defensive intensity as teams go deeper into tournaments like this, and this contest looks like a solid Under.

Kings/Hawks Under 199: Even with some recent offensive outbursts, the Hawks are still averaging just 93.2 points on the season while hitting on 44.0 percent of their shots. The average combined total score of all Atlanta home games is 192.7 points, more than six points less than this posted total. Now granted Sacramento averages over 100 points per game overall, but that figure dips to 98.3 points on the road, and given Atlanta’s offensive deficiencies, that is probably not enough to push this game Over. The Under is now 4-1 in the last five head-to-head meetings between these clubs in this arena, so look for more of the same tonight.

Miss/Clem under 139 and SDS/Syr under 145.5 - 2nd round of tourny, teams will play more conservatively, especially on a Monday, trying to get to final 8, these O/U's are too high as teams vie for the honor of being considered the 65th best college team in the land.

SDSU +7.5 & Under 145.5

The MWC has impressed me all season, and frankly, SDSU is the most talented team from the conference. Unfortunately they haven't gotten it done all season, but the astonishing win at Missouri State - who was IMO the best team in the NIT - tells me they are treating this as a second opportunity for success on the season. They have by far the best player on the floor, and this number is just a bit much.
I do think SDSU will struggle to score at times against the zone, especially across the country. They will probably be behind early, but they will be able to make a run and get back in it, starting on the defensive end. As Art says, the first round of the tournament, teams may not have been completely serious about the lesser tournament, but they should buckle down in this round - and both teams can, as the teams are 27th and 28th in the country in defensive efficiency.

[The HG]

Atl/Sac under 199 - Since Sac was having super-high scoring games and losing, and then had a low scoring game and won, I'm hoping they come out looking to play strong D again and try to forge a win that way. If that happens, 199 is a high number.

SD St./Syracuse under 145.5 - No real strong opinion here, I just need another pick. Maybe SD St. will have problems shooting at the Carrier Dome and the game will wind up in the 130s.

[Jay Edgar]

u199 @ ATL. Kings playing well but fatigue keeps it under. Hawks have no added oomph at home.

BOS +5. They could go belly up altogether in classic hangover game. But they are a better team than NOK right now and 5 is a bragain.
