Basketball Parlay of the Day - Thursday, 3/8/07

SBR will give the winner of the March Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest a sparkling new 19-inch LCD DVI Monitor! Keep in mind guys that I WANT to win this thing myself, so you all better bring your "A" games to beat me!!

For those of you unfamiliar with the contest, here are the rules:

Post your 2 best basketball plays each day, NBA and CBB full-game Sides & Totals allowed only, no halves. Same game Side/Total parlays are ok. You have until five minutes before tip time of your first game to post the selections. Also note that all plays will now be graded against a uniform line! I will post the lines from Pinnacle at approximately 11 AM ET each day. Those of you wishing to make selections before then may do so without posting your lines, and they will be graded against my posted lines.

All parlays will be graded as 10.00 to win 26.00, and I will keep two sets of standings: the Official Standings will be based on parlay units won/lost, and the secondary standings will be on a game-by-game basis ranked by winning percentage.

The Catch: You must have SOME ANALYSIS for each play. Only needs to be one sentence, no big deal, although full paragraphs are ok too. Plays submitted with no analysis will NOT COUNT toward standings.

The player with the most units won after the games of March 31 will win the winner-take-all grand prize. Note that you must play at least 15 days (30 plays) during the month to qualify for the prize! In case of a tie in units, the tiebreaker will be the better winning percentage. If still tied, the contest will be extended with the tied players making one parlay selection per day at the start of April until the tie is broken. NO PASSES will be allowed during this extension period, and any of the tied players doing so will be eliminated regardless of the other player(s) results for that day.

Good Luck to All (but not too much...I need a new monitor!)

    Fine Print:

1 entry per household and IP address.

Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits

    Tie breakers:
Will be decided by win % of individual parlay legs. 2nd tiebreaker is based on additional daily parlays until one person breaks tie.

15 parlays must be made in the month.

All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.

SBR will pick a DVI LCD monitor that is features on this page when winner is decided.

    Georgia -3?
As I posted in another thread, georgia has had some tough losses on a brutal schedule. Only main blemishes were loss to W. Kentucky at home and a 18 point loss to Ole Miss at Oxford. And this game is played in ATL... I gotta think the crowd will be slightly biased here.

    Georgetown/Nova UNDER 122.5
Rolling with the "George" parlay here. Nova gets bounced by a clearly superior Hoya bunch in an ugly affair 62-55 OFFICIAL PLAY: Tennessee -2.5 again, leaving up the Gtown/Nova reasoning up for shits and grins. My official play is a rejuvenated, Lofton-led Tennessee team, that should dominate this game. I'm saying dd win for Tennessee. I'm worried about the value being sucked out of that Gtown Under now. I was thinking about it, and considering Nova has actually forced the slow pace, managing to keep both games close and actually pulling one out, I'm fairly certain that Gtown will try to force a tad higher tempo... Just enough to hit the over... And if Nova can shoot around 40% then that over is nailed. In fact, I'll probably be teasing Gtown and the over as another bet. For these purposes, I'm playing GA and TN///

Tennessee -2.5: LSU is getting far too much respect from the linesmaker's here. Sure, they had that blowout win over Florida a few weeks back and will have Big Baby healthy for this matchup, but they are no match for a very good Tenn. squad. The Vols have won 7 of 8 SU, and are fully capable of winning this SEC tourney. LSU has been a huge disappointment much of the season, and despite the return of Davis, I don't think that will be much of a factor at all. In my opinion he is one of the most overrated player's in the country, and it isn't just a coincidence that this Tiger team played their best game of the season against the Gators in a game he sat out.

San Diego St. -4.5: The Aztecs are in a must-win spot here. They have been inconsistent much of the season, but I think they bring their 'A' game and cover a manageable number against a mediocre CSU team they have already handled twice this year. SDSU needs at least two wins in this tourney to have a reasonable shot at an at-large bid, and while the next game, potentially against host UNLV, may be too much to ask, beating CSU by double figures shouldn't be a problem.

Georgetown- Villanova will be tired, and w/ out Nardi can't keep up w/ Gtown

South Carolina- South Carolina is a good 3 pt shooting team that fights hard off screens.. they can keep any game close and possibly win this one.

SOUTH CAROLINA +6: South Carolina has the rather dubious distinction of being NIT Darlings the last few years, but ironically its only hope of playing in the post-season this year is in the Big Dance, which would only happen if the 14-15 Gamecocks improbably win this tournament. First things first however, and South Carolina has been a profitable investment this season despite that losing SU record, going a sparkling 15-10 ATS. The Cocks also upset Arkansas 66-60 in the only head-to-head meeting, also as six-point underdogs as they are here. The Razorbacks were 18-12 overall, but they were only 5-9 away from home while getting outscored by an average of -5.6 points per game, making the Hogs a vulnerable favorite here.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE +9.5: Duke may be grossly overrated this year, but the Blue Devils are already assured of going to the Big Dance, and have little incentive to put their best foot forward in this tournament. The Wolfpack got blown out by Duke 79-56 on January 20, but they have played much better basketball since then. NC State finished the regular season by going 6-4 ATS in the last ten games, including a shocking upset of North Carolina and two upsets of Virginia Tech, so this team is certainly capable of coming up big vs. superior competition.

Bulls +2 and Chi/Orl over 188 - When playing a road game with at least 2 days off this season, as they did against Miami last night, Chicago is a rather spectacular 0-9 SU this season. Looks like these guys are chillin' out just a bit too much when they get into a new town with some extra time on their hands.

In the games following one of these losses, the Bulls are 6-2 SU, having lost those two games by one and two points, respectively. Also, in 7 of these 8 situations this season, Chicago has scored over 100 points in the following game. Chicago and the over is the only way I can play this one.

Syracuse +2.5 - This team is primed for a run and to get 2.5 points is a bit of a gift against ND who has struggled on the road. I've already heard quotes from ND that "it's a new year" in reference to their struggles in this tourney but expect the same old first round knockout.

Fresno St -1 - I'm amazed this line has moved towards Boise. This is the hottest team in the conference who's coming off a big victory @ Utah St. They seemed to get things straight a few weeks back and haven't looked back since.

Tennessee -2.5 I'll take Lofton and the Vols against an underachieving LSU. The Vols are good enough to win the SEC and LSU is not IMO. I personally took it early at -1.5 and this line continues to rise.

San Antonio -6.5 San Antonio is playing great ball and Artest is still out and Bibby is day-to-day with a bum ankle.

Georgetown -4: No Nardi, look for a big game from Hibbert.

Chicago +2: Skiles is going to have them ready to play after last nights debacle.

tevari, not sure if you're aware or not, but the score of the Gtown game was 28-5 when you just posted your play. Oh, and Nardi IS playing. it's now 30-7.

Illinois -11 Penn St is awful, Illinois is on the bubble. Illinois beat them by 18 at PSU

Stanford +2.5 Close low scoring game, they split the season series, but Stanford looked more impressive in both games

Rice/C Fla under 139.5 - C Fla should play a D-oriented game to win and advance, and the number should stay under.

Rhode Island +1 - Fordham's been winning, RI has been losing, but Fordham has been beating lesser teams, and RI should get revenge here with adequate prep time, which Fordham won't have.

    Arizona -2
Well, Oregon just hasn't been the same team they were early in the season, and Arizona seems to have found some kind of rhythm recently, as their road performances have been much better. Most notable were wins at Stanford, and at this very Oregon team. The Cats still have the most talent in the Pac-10, and when they put it all together, they are frightfully good. I'm thinking they may make a run in this tournament.

    Washington U +3
Well, Washington State was another real disappointment down the stretch after the fantastic start. I love how Washington is playing right now, and, though Wazzou beat them twice during the regular season, I think they beat their rivals in the third meeting. The first meeting Hawes and Pondexter were hurt, and the second meeting, the Huskies couldn't make a shot. Things are different tonight, as Brockman and Hawes lead U Dub to the upset win.

Well, you had the right play, at least.

Relax on your spring break. Have about 20 of these: and stay safe. Have a great time, and do try to remember at least some of your break.

Razz, I agree with both of these plays, my friend. I really like AZ and agree with your assessment of Wazzou. As much as I WANT to like Wazzou (reminds me of Steve Zissou), I can't get behind them with confidence.

    tevari,

If you are sober, just add another play.

Otherwise you go down as a pass.

spurs -6.5 : depleted kings team, spurs playing top notch ball, parker's 2nd game back.

chi +2: for reasons stated above

    Memphis -21.5

It's a home game tonight for Memphis. And more times than not Memphis has smashed their opposition at home. Marshall is coming off a hard fought win over UAB, that combined with the home court advantage makes me somewhat comfortable giving an incredible amount of points tonight.

    Fresno St -1.

Fresno has won 6 in a row, going 5 of 6 ATS in that same stretch. Boise's not at home, so I like Fresno.

    Sac & the over...

Spurs play their third road game in four nights. Sacramento has been playing well lately but without artest their defense will suffer, a lot.

Or you could just fade me...

    Tennessee -2.5
Vols are playing with confidence, having won 8 of 10 and covering 4 of their last 6. LSU has just 2 wins in games on the road or neutral courts this season.

    UW-Wash St. UNDER 129.5
Both meetings in the regular season were under tonight's posted total and I expect the Huskies to show a little fatigue after their battle with ASU last night. These teams have combined to hit the under in 75% of their last ten games.

San antonio - 6.5: Spurs are the best team in the leauge right now and have done well as a road favorite.

Washington St. -3: Washington has played well recently, but was terrible away from home recently. They should lose to wash st. for the 3rd time this season.

6-0 against the spread versus COLORADO ST over the last 3 seasons and 6-1 straight up against COLORADO ST over the last 3 seasons.

tennessee -2.5.... gave full reasoning in previous thread... end of season play, lofton back to full health, lsu's performance away from home, vols finding a way to win away from home.

sdsu -4.5... two inconsistent teams, but sdsu goes 8-2 su to close out the season (colo st went 2-8). with their tournament life hanging in the balance, I believe sdsu plays a hard game and really takes it to this colo st team, same as they did in their previous two meetings this season.

    SDST-4.5
6-0 ATS vs CSU last 3 seasons with SDST by 15 on CSU turf last meet. No logical reason for anything to change tonight....SDST 7-0 ATS vs CSU after this match.

    UCSB-3.5
UCSB already ATS & SU @Hm & @IRVINE this year. UCSB on a 3 game winning streak, are 7-0 ATS after allowing 60 pts-less & 4-0 ATS when the posted total is 120-129.5. IRVINE is 0-6 ATS off a win vs conf. rival, 1-5 ATS after allowing 60 pts-less, 1-5 ATS on neutral courts last 3 seasons, 3-12 ATS after a conf. game, & 0-3 ATS in tourney games.
