Basketball Parlay of the Day - Saturday, 3/3/07

SBR will give the winner of the March Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest a sparkling new 19-inch LCD DVI Monitor! Keep in mind guys that I WANT to win this thing myself, so you all better bring your "A" games to beat me!!

For those of you unfamiliar with the contest, here are the rules:

Post your 2 best basketball plays each day, NBA and CBB full-game Sides & Totals allowed only, no halves. Same game Side/Total parlays are ok. You have until five minutes before tip time of your first game to post the selections. Also note that all plays will now be graded against a uniform line! I will post the lines from Pinnacle at approximately 11 AM ET each day. Those of you wishing to make selections before then may do so without posting your lines, and they will be graded against my posted lines.

All parlays will be graded as 10.00 to win 26.00, and I will keep two sets of standings: the Official Standings will be based on parlay units won/lost, and the secondary standings will be on a game-by-game basis ranked by winning percentage.

The Catch: You must have SOME ANALYSIS for each play. Only needs to be one sentence, no big deal, although full paragraphs are ok too. Plays submitted with no analysis will NOT COUNT toward standings.

The player with the most units won after the games of March 31 will win the winner-take-all grand prize. Note that you must play at least 15 days (30 plays) during the month to qualify for the prize! In case of a tie in units, the tiebreaker will be the better winning percentage. If still tied, the contest will be extended with the tied players making one parlay selection per day at the start of April until the tie is broken. NO PASSES will be allowed during this extension period, and any of the tied players doing so will be eliminated regardless of the other player(s) results for that day.

Good Luck to All (but not too much...I need a new monitor!)

    Fine Print:

1 entry per household and IP address.

Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits

    Tie breakers:
Will be decided by win % of individual parlay legs. 2nd tiebreaker is based on additional daily parlays until one person breaks tie.

15 parlays must be made in the month.

All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.

SBR will pick a DVI LCD monitor that is features on this page when winner is decided.

    Texas

Alot of points to give up in a game that could come down to the final basket with either team coming out on the winning side

    Oklahoma St.

I look for an outright win of 5-7 points coming off that nice win against KSU.

Virginia -2 and Orlando +13 parlay

The Cavs win today they win the ACC, and WF has not been good since CP3 left the building, and the Mavs are going for 15 in a row, it is time for them to lose or at least not cover. The Magic probably won't have a bigger game the rest of the year.

SOUTH FLORIDA/DEPAUL OVER 124.5: The Big East has been UNDER-dominated this season, but the oddsmakers have lowered this total to the point where the OVER actually has value. In fact South Florida has been an exception to the rule anyway, as the OVER is 5-1 in its last five games. Bulls games are averaging 133 combined points overall, and they have not been that great defensively on the road, allowing 70.4 points per game. Now DePaul has been a typical Big East team, with the UNDER going 11-4 inside the conference. However the average combined total score of all Blue Demons home games has been 129.5 points, which is actually five points higher than this posted total!

OKLAHOMA/KANSAS STATE OVER 126.5: This is another total that has been deflated by the success of the UNDER for the teams involved, giving value to the OVER. Yes the UNDER is 7-3 in all Kansas State home games, but this games are averaging 132.4 points, more than five points higher than this posted total. Similarly, the UNDER is 7-4 in all Oklahoma road games, but the average combined total score in those games of 129.4 points is still higher than this total.

Overlay in the green juicy pastures.

    Temple-Fordham Over 138
Temple has gone over in 10 of 14 road games ATS. And while Fordham doesn't always light up the scoreboard, they have gone over in 4 of their last 5 including 91 and 86 point efforts in 2 of their last 3 games.

    Syracuse-Villanova Under 139.5
'Cuse has gone under in 5 of their last 6 and in 4 of their last 5 road games. 'Nova has been under this total of 139.5 at home in their last 6 straight. Pair that up with two teams that are allowing opponents to shoot under 38% from the floor in their last 5 overall and I think the under has a good shot here.

Depaul - 13.5 Deapul wins and covers.

Connecticut + 11.5 Huskies seem to play well against G-Town.

    Memphis -14 at SMU
I hate laying more than 10½ in any game. Can see the Tigers up by 18-20 with a couple of minutes left, empty their bench and the Ponies sneak in a couple of garbage bombs to make me a loser. But Memphis should win this one by 18+, so I'm biting the bullet and tailing the Tigers.

    UCLA -3½ at Washington
The Bruins cornhole me every chance I give them, it seems, but I'm going to try them one more chance. Can definitely see this being a 2-point game at the end, so maybe I'm a fool. Just think UCLA is going to go full tilt so they don't blow a 1-seed in the West at this stage of the game.

LT, not sure if the time was changed or not, but I believe the Texas A&M game is 4:00 Eastern today.

    Georgia -3
Tennessee is an awful road team who is also in a flat situation off the win over Florida. There is certainly value in the line, as just a week ago, Tennessee was a 4-point dog at an Arkansas team that is inferior to the Bulldogs. Georgia has their leader back in Levi Stukes, and they should coast to victory in this one.

    Washington +3.5
Well, I'm going to keep taking Washington any time they play a home game where the line is near pk. UCLA is a great team, but I don't think people realize how difficult it is to win on U Dub's home court. The Huskies play better defense at home, and Appleby is lights out on his home court. I expect Washington to win outright against a UCLA team that could come a little flat off clinching the conference title.

Iowa -1.5: Iowa coming off a bad loss to last place Penn St. That loss only adds value in taking the Hawkeyes at home in this one. The Illini are a miserable 9-16 ATS and will be facing a motivated Iowa team, particularly Big Ten leading scorer Adam Haluska, who is playing his final home game. Despite a disappointing non-conference record that has left his squad out of contention for an at-large bid, Steve Alford will have his team ready to go in this one.

Wyoming -4.5: This Wyoming team has been disappointing all season. They have the talent to be at or near the top of the standings in the MWC. Their poor play makes them a good pick in this one. With one of the better backcourts in the country and playing on their homecourt, where they have been tough to beat for years, Wyoming comes out strong in this one against an inferior opponent.

New Mexico St +9.5 They're the only WAC team that matches up physically with Nevada, bigger inside, I expect a close game.

Purdue -12.5 Northwestern is awful and look for Purdue to run up the score on senior day.

Virginia -2---Simply the better team. Will win on the road against Wake.

Spurs -3---PLaying really, really well right now. Didn't expend much energy (I was at the game last night) so they should be fresh.

Sorry about the short analysis. I woke up late, thinking UT-Kansas tipped off at noon, CST, otherwise I would have had UT in there instead of SA... trying to get this entered before VA tipoff.

Yes as it says above, the times I listed are in PACIFIC Time, so 1:00 PT is correct. Blame it on Pinny.

Orlando +13 1/2 and Orl/Dal over 188 - Orlando may have had delusions of grandure last night against SA, after beating them at home last month, and starting off their 4 game road swing with a win at Chicago. After struggling in the first half and realizing they didn't have it, they caved and got blown out. Shooting 1/13 from 3-point range didn't help either. Most likely there are few expectations of beating Dallas tonight, and finishing off this road trip without getting blown out should be victory enough for Orlando. I expect them to play loosely and upbeat, with less expectations, and see them covering the spread and getting the over in this one.

Dal -13.5 and Under: The c'mon it's Dallas factor didn't work last game against Cleveland, but it will work tonight against Orlando. Dwight Howard is a monster, but no one else on that team can score. Against Dallas' top D, an overmatched Orlando team will struggle to break 80. Dallas will hit the high 90's.

San Antonio -3 The road team has won every game of this season series. SA will look to avenge the last two home losses to Hou by evening the season series in Hou tonight.

Over 123 Dayton/St.Louis These teams are averaging 133 points a game. In their last matchup in St. Louis Dayton shot 38%. I look for Dayton to rebound today and with St. Louis shooting 46% on the road this game should clear the total.

Wright St. -6: Should have no problem at home winning their first conference tourney game easily.

Rhode Island -3: Richmond is terrible, and Rhode Island is decent and should win and cover.

Iowa State +2 -105 - I'll take the more motivated team in their final home game of the year. TTech with nothing to play for.

NMSU +9.5 -105 - Two evenly matched teams athletically. Generous line giving me more points than I'll need to cash.

SAN The prize is real, so I'm willing to go against the method. Spurs have moved into a new gear. Rockets recent struggles masked last night by easy win against totally-adrift Nugget team. Popovich will have the answer for them, and his team is now playing for keeps.

LAC Worst may be over for Clips. Even if shorthanded, they shouldn't need anything special to handle a team that hasn't played a good game since the break. Slight concern about IND getting a drop in class, but the BxB offsets that.
