Basketball Parlay of the Day - Tuesday, 2/13/07
Post your 2 best basketball plays each day, NBA and CBB full-game Sides & Totals allowed only, no halves. Same game Side/Total parlays are ok.
All parlays will be graded as 10.00 to win 26.00, and I will do the standings for the month of February at least.
The Catch: You must have SOME ANALYSIS for each play. Only needs to be one sentence, no big deal, although full paragraphs are ok too. Plays submitted with no analysis will NOT COUNT toward standings.
Could have won yesterday, but the officials decided to award an NCAA-record 83 free throws in the second half of the Gonzaga game.
FSU -2
This is a true WTF? line, but I'll bite this one time. I'm aware that Georgia Tech has a lot of talent, but we are talking about a team that has a grand total of one road win the past two seasons - at Cemetary, who gets buried every time they take the court. Al Thornton seems to have some kind of back problem, which is a concern, but as long as he is relatively healthy, I think FSU gets this needed victory at home, where they have been quite impressive the past couple seasons. The Criminoles steal an 8 point win.
Tennessee -2.5
Kentucky is in the midst of a very difficult stretch right now, and I just don't think it gets easier here. The emotional loss on Saturday works against them here, and the Vols are seeking revenge. Tennessee is one of those teams (like a Washington) that is a decent team in general, but is another animal entirely when playing at home. Kentucky travels to Thompson-Boling Tuesday, and they face a UT team that is 100% again now that Lofton is healthy. Rocky Top rolls to a 10 point win.
FSU -3
Georgia Tech hasn't won a road game all season and FSU has only lost 2 at home by a combined 3 points. FSU rolls tonight.
UNLV +3
UNLV beat SD state by 7 earlier this season and they've continued to improve since then. I'm taking UNLV and the 3.
HOUSTON ROCKETS -7.5: This looks like a lot of points, but the Rockets have been simply punishing teams here at home lately. Houston is 5-1 SU in the last six games in this building, and the five winning margins were 21, 28, 10, 21 and 30 points respectively! Also the Rockets beat the Kings 115-111 in overtime at Sacramento the last time these clubs met last month.
TENNESSEE TECH -4.5: Tennessee Tech is 8-2 SU in the last ten head-to-head meetings with the Skyhawks, and we are looking for another safe win here even on the road. Tennessee Martin is just 7-21 SU overall, and it has found little salvation here at home where it is just 4-7 SU and 3-7 ATS. Tennessee Tech has actually played very well on the road lately, going 3-2 SU in its last five games away from home with the losses being by 2 points (in overtime) and 1 point, and the Golden Eagles should appreciate the drop in class here.
u187 @ MIA Even with a day off the Blazers, like the Hawks, may be due for a clunker after a 2-0 road trip start. Heat are holding teams to mid-80s or lower consistently at home. Blazers have gone OT 5 of last 10 games to inflate their numbers.
u203 @ LAX This total will probably go a little higher, but I need to post now so I'm stuck with the 203. Lakers should be hung over from the long road trip, at least to start. Thus Knicks can hang around in a tight and intense game. Or they can mail it in in a 2d half blowout. Either way, somebody stays under 100.
Niagara -1
They've beaten Canisius 8 straight times in this series and rolled by 18 when the two teams met @Niagara earlier this month. Niagara is 9-5 ATS on the road & Canisius is just 2-7 ATS at home.
Texas Tech@Texas A&M Over 132.5
A gut feeling for this one. A&M has the rep from the national media lately as a defensive force. Tech scored 70 against them in Lubbock and the Red Raiders while not a great team have been consistent in putting up near 70 be it home or away. They've also yielded 70+ pts to their opponents in 4 of their last 5 road games. A&M has hit 67 or above in its last 5 home games. I say this one squeaks out a narrow cover on the over.
Texas Tech +13 at Texas A&M
Considering changing my name to Fifty-Fifty since that's all I seem to be able to do on these parlays so far. Taking the points and the Red Raiders in this one for two reasons. First, Tortilla Tech gets up to play A&M in anything. Tell the TT students there's going to be an underwater farting contest against the Aggies, and they'd pack the natatorium and get all liquored up about it. Secondly, I'm trying to trick God on this one in case He thinks He can screw me. See, either the Tortilla Techsters cover and I win the play, or the Aggies absolutely kick their North Texas, dry county, horse-piss drinkin', dust-bowl asses. Can't lose
Tennessee -3 vs Kentucky
Would love to get it -2½ but have no idea where that line can be found right now. Just think the Vols beat their border rivals and cover, call it a gut feeling. Of course, I had pizza and chicken wings for lunch, so maybe it's just gas.
The parlay
Nets +9- I liked this line when it was at 7, but I love it at 9. Spurs in the middle of a tough Rodeo road trip and I just don't see them winning by 10.
Lakers -6-locked in on this last night after bigboydan brought the line up as being "not right". No way the Lakers continue their downward spiral against an East team (the Knicks of all teams) at home.
(P.S. don't count this, but I think a Niagara -1, Oklahoma -3.5 college parlay is golden, as well.)
Couple of MVC picks for me tonight, these lines are moving against me, but i played them earlier.
Missouri St -4.5: Southern Illinois is the best team in the MVC and has won 7 straight games, but that streak should end tonight against a very good Missouri St. team that will look for revenge for a 20pt loss at Southern Illinois earlier this year.
N. Iowa +9.5: This line opened at 10 and has been coming down all day. Creighton has been playing very well and has been tough at home this year. However, they allready beat N. Iowa by 8 on the road and should letdown a bit a home here. N. Iowa has struggled recently losing 3 in a row and 6 of 7, but they should be able to keep this one close.
So. Ill +5 Winners of seven straight with an outstanding pressure defense to cause some early turnovers against this Mizz st. I don't believe missing Tatum warrants them being 5 point dogs either. Take the better team here plus the points. Salukes maybe looking at a 4 seed come tournament time if they finish strong.
Hofstra +8.5 Old D is playing lights out right now but the refs gave them a break against VA allowing them to score almost 30 points from the FT line. While Hofstra is coming off a good win against G. Mason. The guard play of Hofstra should keep the game close and quite possibly pull an upset tonight in the CAA.

New Jersey Nets +8
New Jersey: 9-0 ATS at home off a win by 15+ points
FSU -3: FSU playing without their starting PG (broken hand) makes this line a lot closer than than the 6 or 7 it would normally be. I still think the Seminoles cover easily against a very young Ga. Tech team. FSU needs to keep winning to ensure a spot in the tourney and they are tough on their home court.
Memphis/NO Over 207: With David West and Chris Paul back, the Hornets are a much better scoring team than the stats would indicate. Memphis playing at home should keep this game reasonably close, which means more points. I think both teams go well over 100 in this one.
Missed some of the earlier better plays, but these are what I have for later.
UNC -15.5
I will lay all 15 and a half in this one because VT has shown their true colors and I don't like them. First off, they do not have a prayer in this game. UNC will get revenge and I'm looking for it to be ugly.
ISU +4
Cyclones are meeting a hot Sooners squad, but I like how this line hasn't moved and has looked way to short to start. I'll take a nice 4 point spot to start.
