How long until Doug Collins is fired?

He wanted Nick Young and Kwame Brown in the off season so they signed them. He wanted to bring Spencer Hawes back so they re-signed him. He wasn't a fan of Iguodala so they traded for Bynum knowing he was injured. A risk worth taking but a risk that has now blown up in his face.

On top of the horrible personnel decisions the only thing he wants out of his players on offense is to take mid range jump shots. They have to be in the top 5 for long 2's taken in the league. Possession after possession it's an 18-20 foot jump shot.

What might be even more frustrating is his refusal to play rookies. Last season, in limited minutes Nikola Vucevic looked promising. He had one bad game and Doug buried him in his dog house for the playoffs and then packaged him in the Bynum trade. Now, he's doing the same thing this season with Arnett Moultrie. The team is done, they aren't making the playoffs, and he still refuses to give him more than 10 minutes a game.

At the end of the game tonight Doug walked off the court with around 10 seconds left.

not his fault, but now that i said that, people will say it is, he never wanted bynum

If bynum was there and healthy it would be a different team

he will be there next season. too good of a coach to be fired with the supposed star of the team out most of the year. they are a young team and have a bright future ahead.

I did not like to see him not taking any of the blame. Still, I got to cut some slack on those guys. Not the full slack, everyone not named Jrue Holiday or Thaddeus Young should be ashamed of themselves. But they put together a team thinking about Andrew Bynum in the middle. The new guys came in thinking this was going to be a sweet journey, trying to probably get a nr 2 seed in the conference. Then all of a sudden, they know they'll be without Bynum for a little while. Than that shithead decides to go bowling, now he might be done for who knows how long... and just like that things start getting worse and worse. Dorell Wright isn't hitting shots because they are not there for him to hit. Same goes for Jason Richardson. Then, when Jay-Rich finally starts getting things going, is done because of an injury. Then Young loses some really key games. And when they have that late lead against Milwaukee to make it 2gb, they end up losing the game. Now they lose at home to the Magic on the same day the Mavericks also basically give away the playoffs by losing a nice lead late in the game, at home, to the Bucks. Nail. In. The. Coffin.

He might get fired, and his comments might not have been the right ones, but this is not his fault.

Couldn't disagree more with the criticism. It would take me far too long to break down everything you said that was incorrect, because the whole post is loaded with assumptions and falsehoods.

Doug Collins is a tremendous coach. Everyone knew this team isn't going anywhere this year, except for you. All the moves they made in the offseason (Iguodala, Brand, Bynum, etc) is to put themselves in position for the 2013 offseason. They are going to land their first lottery pick since Evan Turner. Whether it be Bynum or someone else, they will have tremendous flexibility for a big name free agent.

Or maybe no one other than Holiday can get to the rim? Im not sure you've noticed but even their big guys are mid-range shooters. apart from holiday and turner who basically both play pg, and then Young, everyone else likes to shoot jumpers. if they had Bynum, they would be shooting them wide open way more often. they dont.

I don't know why all the love for Collins here. he is a mediocre coach at best. he's just one of those guys in the coaching fraternity that always gets hired for a job but never does anything significant.

Collins did the same thing with Detroit... then he got booted. Guy can't coach in big games. Vegas hates him... he can't cover backdoor in any of his games. Guy is a complete turd.

Doug Collins is the classic quick nut coach that everyone hates. Teams get worse the longer he is there and get much better after he leaves. Why anyone would hire him is beyond belief?

Evan Turner typically can be found standing in the corner when Holiday has the ball. I'm not sure any 76ers fan should be excited for a high lottery pick as Doug has all but ruined Evan.

To those who claim the reason all they shoot is mid range shots because they have mid range shooters need to remember he brought those guys in. He's essentially been the GM/coach since he got to Philadelphia.

Look at the four guys who left Philadelphia last off season in Iguodala, Brand, Vucevic and Williams. With Philly 33% of Iguodala's shots were from 16-23 feet and with Denver only 20% of his shots are from 16-23 feet. Elton Brand shot 26% of his shots from 16-23 feet with Philly and with Dallas is shooting 23% of his shots from 16-23 feet. Vucevic shot 31% of his shots from 16-23 feet with Philly and with Orlando is shooting 22% of his shots from 16-23 feet. Williams with Philly shot 28% of his shots from 16-23 feet and in a small sample size with Atlanta shot 19% of his shots from 16-23 feet.

Anyone that is in this thread defending Doug obviously does not follow the team. The defense was good with Iguodala as the key but this year not even the defense has been good. He refuses to play young players with high upside for reasons that nobody knows. They have won one playoff series under Doug in 3 seasons (they aren't winning one this season) and that was only because Rose tore his ACL.

    Doug Collins ruined Evan Turner?

    No.

Try Evan Turner ruined Evan Turner.

A reporter went up to Turner after a game this year in which he hit some 3 point shots. At the time he was leading the NBA in 3 point shooting %.

The reporter asked him what his secret was. Want to know what Turner said?He said: My secret is I don't practice them. Not ever.

Since that time, he has since dropped out of the top 3 point shooting % into the bottom of the league in that category.

In short, Turner is just another lazy dikkhead who thinks he doesn't have to put the work in and everything is just going to get handed to him.

He's not a three point shooter. He knows it and anyone who watches him knows it. The only person who doesn't seem to know it is Doug Collins.

I dont know why they broke up that team from last year that was a game away from going to the eastern finals. If this team has vucevic and harkless playing they are sitting as a 5 or 6 seed right now. Needless to say collins is burned out and will probably be fired in the offseason even though this disaster of a team isnt his fault.

Arnett Moultrie - 7 minutes in first half, looks good, scores 4 points, doesn't play a minute in the second half.

To anyone saying that Vucevic and Harkless could have made a difference Vucevic would have been the backup C playing around 15 minutes per game and one bad play in any game he would have been immediately pulled for Kwame Brown. Harkless would have been lucky to play 10 minutes once every 5 games.

Anyone defending Doug Collins obviously has not been watching this team.

the trade was made to pick up the 2nd best center in the nba
    it was a no brainer
this team was built for bynum to be the star of the team
but obviously in hindsight, this was a disaster, esp if his knees are indeed degenerative

to say that the sixers were 1 game from blah blah blah, is nonsense
they just dont have enuff talent to win a title
theiy hit their peak last year and it only got them to the 2nd round with rose getting injured

By the way I just googled "Grantland Doug Collins". They do have an article on him that was posted February 27th at 2:15pm. This thread was created February 27th at 12:15am. I couldn't have plagiarized from something that didn't exist at the time of my post.
