So there are 200-250% as many MLB players as NBA players and you can name 3 but I could name 100 NBA players with legal troubles?

or, you just have no idea what you are talking about.

here is a article dated may 5th 2011. it states.. "who on Monday became the sixth major leaguer arrested on suspicion of DUI since Feb. 12."

so no, MLB isn't stricter, the players aren't smarter or better behaved.

Matt Bush, Bobby Jenks, Alex White. C. Martinez from Braves all have been arrested for DuI this year.

Last year there was at least 6. Choo,Miguel Cabrera, Austin Kearns, Adam Kennedy, Coco Crisp and Derek Lowe.

    It happens.

100 players with legal trouble? Name them please. The discussion was about DWI/DUI. You're now trying to change the subject.

And guns aside, everyone knows that NBA players frequently get in trouble with the law. Remember that book by Jeff Benedict, “Out of Bounds: Inside the NBA’s Culture of Rape, Violence, and Crime,” where he found that 40% of NBA players have a police record involving a serious crime? Sure, his sample size was limited to 177 of the NBA’s 417 non-foreign born players — less than half. And sure, the book did not “disclose a detailed listing of his data” (New York Times, 6/15/04). And sure, as NBA Commissioner David Stern noted, the book lumped together those who were accused of crimes and those who were convicted (ed. note, apparently, there is indeed a difference between being accused of a crime and being convicted of one.)
But who cares? 40 percent of NBA players! Rape, Violence and Crime! That’s all you need to know. And sure, I could do an investigation into cable news, use Bill O’Reilly and Kiran Chetry as my sample size, and say that 50% of cable news hosts have been accused of sexual harassment. But that doesn’t matter. It sounds true, doesn’t it? It reinforces our preconceived notions.
It doesn’t matter what’s true. It doesn’t matter what goes on in other sports. It doesn’t matter that for every Javaris Crittendon, there’s Chris Paul, Deron Williams, and countless others. It doesn’t matter that the majority of NBA players are more than likely law abiding citizens.''

    40 FUKKIN PERCENT!!!

Do the same research for MLB players and it'd be MAYBE 5%... MAYBE. Probably not even that.

You morons don't know what the fukk you are talking about if you don't think there is a huge, huge, huge, huge disparity between NBA crime problem and MLB crime problem.

40% of NBA players have a serious crime on their police record buddy. Meaning for me to be able to name 100 names, there would need to be 250 players in the NBA (do the math, brother)

Sample size of 177. Last I counted there's 450-500 NBA players. So much math fail.

So you think that the statistics wouldn't be representative as a whole? Why do you believe that?

Furthermore, if I go through every single active player in the NBA, I guarantee you I can find 100 names. I'll do it if I have some incentive, but you rejecting something that is almost guaranteed is pretty stupid. Then again, I think I know why you object.

''10. Chris Anderson. Back with the Denver Nuggets, Chris “Birdman” Anderson was kicked out of the league for two years from 2006-2008 for violating the league’s anti-drug policy. The story has a silver lining as Anderson made his way back into the league and is apparently clean.

We are talking about stupidity right? Doesn't get more stupid than trying to bring weed onto an airplane.

    9. Carmelo Anthony. The Denver Nugget star has lived up to his on-court nickname of “Melo” when he’s off the court as well. Melo has been picked up for marijuana possession twice, the first time when it was in his backpack going through airport security.

    5. Ron Artest. The rap on Artest is that he is a two way player on the floor. Well, of the floor, he is also very versatile with three different crimes. First, Ronny did his best Rick James impression and hit then locked his wife up. Next, he got into the infamous brawl where he went into the stands and assaulted a fan (banned for 1 year). Last, Ronny pulled a page from the Vick playbook and got some animal negligence in Sacramento.

that pretty much shows why you either don't care to check or all to happy to just run with you prejudices. you could have made the argument given the age differences or at least mentioned it. you chose to go with the race argument.

you said you "almost never see mlb players hit with stuff like this" yet it happens all of the time. now you want to make an argument about it being a significant difference? this is like going to a strip club and arguing that one stripper has more issues than another one.. it's almost never any kind of meaningful difference.

    tunaguitar,

Are we now going to say DUI is worse than violent crimes?

40% of NBA players have committed a violent crime

What percentage of MLB players do you think have committed or been accused of a violent crime?

Just stop arguing something that is common knowledge. NBA/NFL players get into more trouble by far than MLB, NHL.

Multiple witnesses tell TMZ ... NBA star Jason Kidd appeared to be so drunk in the moments leading up to his DWI arrest ... that he had to be carried out of the club he spent the night partying at.

TMZ has obtained a photo of the all-star point guard being carried out of a club called SL East. Multiple witness tell TMZ that Kidd appeared "incredibly drunk" -- so much so that at one point he tried to hang from a club light and broke it.

According to the multiple witnesses, after being carried out by a few friends, Kidd got in his car to drive off ... despite protests from his friends. Kidd left the club around 1:00 AM and crashed his car less than an hour later.

Earlier in the evening, Kidd tweeted a photo of himself (wearing the same gray shirt as in the photo above) alongside George Lucas at a charity event.

i suppose it depends on who you ask. you can make an argument dui is just as bad as attempted murder or carrying an unlicensed weapon. I'm not saying i feel that way but i could understand someone who does.

but that has not been shown to be true. what you posted says as much.

"40 percent of NBA players! Rape, Violence and Crime! That’s all you need to know. a guy writing a book found that 40% number. yet we know it wasn't a large sample size. if you were writing a book and doing the calculations why wouldn't you use a larger sample size from a league with only certain amount of players? most likely because that number would be lower and wouldn't provide the shock which wouldn't sell as many books. i would think the nba does have a higher violent crime rate but that would seem to be the age thing, young and stupid more than anything else. Allen Iverson had his share of violent crime issues when he was younger. now he is still a dumb ass but has i guess he has grown past the violence.

if you include the jail blazers and not the spurs it could make a significant difference in a smaller sample size. same as if you were to do the nfl and include the Bengals but leave out the Patriots.

Quote Originally Posted by PickWinnerAllDay View Post

I have no idea but accused is a different thing when dealing with pro athletes or anyone with money and media visibility.

I don't know that to be true. are we including practice squad players? there are other things to think about. the nba and nfl are more popular. the leagues and players generate more media attention. so of course we hear about their players issues more often, it gets more clicks, it just does.

besides does "get into more trouble" include peds? because then obviously the difference is negligible.

just because you don't hear about it as often or as publicly doesn't mean it isn't happening. i really don't think there is a major difference in the amount of trouble players of any league get into.

i just think there is more to it than just a blanket statement. otherwise it appears mlb has a major problem with their managers if you just look at Leyland, Washington, Cox and LaRussa.
