    NBA lottery rigged again

It is almost too easy. Seriously after the embarrassment of having the Hornets being owned by the league and conflicts of interest all over the place, they finally sell the team to some sucker with more money than brains and whoa what do you know? They win the lottery from the fourth spot.

While the lottery odds are supposedly set it is funny that the team with the highest mathematical chance has only gotten the first pick 3 times since they went to this method in 1990. I will leave it to the math geeks to figure out the odds of that happening.

Seems to me the league picks a team to go number one and then lets the math do the remaining picks.

Because it is pretty obvious this was another back room deal where the first pick was a guarantee to anyone who bought this trainwreck of a franchise.

Could have made a rigged case if Charlotte won as well... Stern paying MJ back... however, I have zero doubt in my mind that rigging the draft is not beneath a guy like Stern

They don't even televise the drawing of ping pong balls anymore. They just come out and tell you who won and you believe it.

Cleveland loses Lebron = #1 pick
New Orleans loses Paul = #1 pick

Next year Orlando loses Howard........... You know the rest.

I agree. Why can't we see the ping pong balls? If its good enough for the lottery, why isn't it good enough here?

nba isn't about to risk their entire fanbase on a rigged lottery.

that may have been the way in 85 but not anymore. not like stern is hurting for cash

Yes, because Cleveland and New Orleans are cornerstone franchises that sell-out every game and have a history that rivals the Lakers and Celtics.

people love saying the nba lotto is rigged and we hear this regardless of which franchise wins.

If people actually believed their own BCS, they'd go to sportsbooks like 5 Dimes and clean up betting on the lottery.

This is getting out of hand. All this rigging talk.

Every game has one, and now the draft lottery gets one.

Who does he [David Stern] answer to?? The 30 owners around the league that are not even present at the supposed time of drawing?? It's a joke really.

People are great at telling us how rigged stuff is after the fact but somehow are not very good at predicting it before it happens.

If rigged games/refs didnt turn away their fan base, you think a rigged draft would?

Each team is assigned a bunch of combinations of numbers the worse your record the more combinations of numbers each team has, then a random number generator "draws" the numbers. The team with the winning combination wins. So that's why you can't see the ping pong balls because they draw 1000 combinations.

NBA needs to change their draft process.
Not allowing the Vancouver Grizzlies to draft first overall ever during their short time in the league.

The lottery system makes sense to prevent teams from tanking and ruining the integrity of the game it's just at least show the d@mn lotto drawing. This is starting to seem a bit staged.

Do you want to see 4 balls get drawn 1000 times and then use your scoresheet to determine what team holds the winning combination? Riveting television.

    '

it would be pretty simple if they took 100 balls total, worst team has 25 of them, next team 20 balls, worst 4 teams would have 1 ball each all the way down, and then simply draw them out.

something about the whole behind the scenes process is fishy IMO

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--nb...-20120531.html

MIAMI – This was the fitting end to one of the darkest, most unseemly episodes in the history of the NBA, the perfect punctuation on the commissioner's manipulation of the sale and salvation of a lost franchise.

The New Orleans Hornets won the draft lottery and get to pick one of the most transcendent prospects in years, Kentucky's Anthony Davis. The NBA-owned New Orleans Hornets, with a 13.7 percent chance, won the lottery. For over a year, David Stern pushed hard to get maximum value for his owners on the re-sale of the Hornets, and Tom Benson gave Stern an asking price and an assurance the franchise wouldn't leave New Orleans.

"It's such a joke that the league made the new owners be at the lottery for the show," one high-ranking team executive told Yahoo! Sports. "The league still owns the Hornets. Ask their front office if new owners can make a trade right now. They can't. This is a joke."
Hornets coach Monty Williams represented the franchise at the draft lottery. (AP)

The reaction of several league executives was part disgust, part resignation on Wednesday night. So many had predicted this happening, so many suspected that somehow, someway, the Hornets would walk away with Davis. That's the worst part for the NBA; these aren't the railings from the guy sitting at the corner tavern, but the belief of those working within the machinery that something undue happened here, that they suspect it happens all the time under Stern.

[Related: Top 30 players for NBA draft]

There's no proof, and there will never be proof. Yet, there's an appearance of impropriety – always an appearance – that marches arm-and-arm with Stern into the twilight of his commissionership, marches right out the door with him.
