    This may sound racist, but

the black coaches in the NBA right now, collectively, are fvcking awful.

I'm not impressed with Hollins. Never have been.

Don't get me wrong -- there are horrible white coaches in the league as well.

But this list doesn't do the stereotypes any favors.

Grizzlies should do better in the regular season with all the talent they have. From 1 to 5 they have great talent and a bench player who would start in 2/3 of the league.

Sharp Thread actually.....But coaching all around is at an all-time low.....I can count on one hand the amount of actual GOOD NBA coaches right now

Have you watched the way they manage games?

Of course, part of the blame is putting these guys in HC positions before they are ready. Not sure you can make an argument that any of these cats were anywhere near "seasoned" enough to be NBA coaches.

Which of these coaches would you disagree with?

Add the two most recent Hawks coaches to the list -- Woodson and Drew. Forgot about them.

Maybe that's why these teams are so erratic -- egomaniac players aren't being "coached" at all.

Maybe that should be the theme to this thread.

What caused you to make this thread? You thought the jazz were going to lose, right?

It comes down to players, not coaches.

Again, that's what's wrong with this league right now.

When's the last time a "players" team won an NBA title?

Not sure what a "players" team is... the Mavs were a better team last year but the Heat had better talent obviously. What is a "players" team?

Here's a question for all of you: do you think the Heat can win the NBA title with Spoelstra as their coach?

You just said it's a "players" league -- now you want to know what I mean by "players" teams?

The Mavs had Carlisle. The Heat had Spoelstra. The end.

Do you think it's just a coincidence that the NBA title is won year in and year out by teams with elite coaches?

So you think that, when the Heat get into inevitably tight playoff games against the Bulls or whoever comes out of the West, Spoelstra will deliver with late plays out of timeouts?

Why did the pistons win when carlisle left? The Mavs had dirk. The Heat had lebron. The end.

Did the Lakers not have the best team in '09 and '10?

It starts at the top from the owner, management, to coaching to the players. The players win but if the people in charge don't have a clue is doesn't mean squat.

Carlisle was getting there and he was a very good coach who won a lot of games in Detroit. Larry Brown had the championship pedigree and delivered a title. Carlisle was that much more seasoned when he coached the Mavs to the title last year.

Which is why there are so many pretenders out there who can look great at times but really have no shot of winning a title.

Until they prove otherwise, the Heat fall into that category because they have a star who can't close and a head coach who doesn't have the experience necessary to win a championship.

    Debatable.
Brown had pedigree, but not the pedigree of a winner, usually because he had inferior teams like the sixers in '01. He finally had a championship caliber team in detroit and he got it done. I'm not saying coaching doesn't matter because 2004 was a combination of a great team and a great coach but in the end I am a firm believer that it's players, not plays.

Which teams were better in 2009/10 than the lakers?

The Heat and/or Thunder have every chance in the world to prove that this season, because if history proves anything, I wouldn't count out a Bulls/Spurs final.
