I'm sure there are some other pieces to this. The Hornets are getting less with just these guys in the deal.

this one will probably go through. the NBA wants some younger players in New Orleans and getting pressure from the Union with talk of a lawsuit over the first trade.

so odom got out of this, once he went Hollywood i was done with him...

the vetoed the trade because they wanted to hornets to be more valuable, so how does taking odom off the trade help that cause...

Weren't they already getting Scola, Martin, and a 1st round pick. Is Stern just not wanting them to waste payroll on Odom and Dragic?

Not really.. The reason the owners were mad was because the lakers got rid of big salaries(gasol and odom) while getting a superstar.

pretty much they are trying to make the Hornets as attractive as they can to sell them. make it look like they are full of potential.

They are also trying to keep some $ on the Lakers payroll. The last deal had them saving $40 million

How exactly do you build a team in the NBA? You have to NOT make the playoffs to get some potential superstar out of college. Other than that you resort to buying big players with inflated contracts, and hope they mesh.

the nba is about to become a terrible league with like 3 or 4 incredible teams and the rest bad to mediocre.

one player just impacts a team too much and there's just not enough talent.

I can't imagine why NO wouldn't want Goran Dragic. The is a beast off the bench and at $2.1M for the year, he brings a lot to the table. Odom would have been solid as well with David West leaving, but I can understand them being hesitant to spend $8.9M on a guy that doesn't want to be in New Orleans on a rebuilding team after being so settled into his life in LA.

cant see rockets agreeing with that. k-mart and scola are the whole team right now. brooks and gasol wont get the job done. then a first round pick on top of that? no way.

Just make it an 8 team league. What's the point of having small market teams who have zero shot? Lakers, Heat, Celtics, Knicks, Mavs, Bulls, etc.

They have built their teams through the draft and trades. I seriously can't remember the last big time FA they signed. Shaq? I'm sure there is someone since then that i'm forgetting. They are good b/c their front office is savvy enough to draft guys like Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum, Marc Gasol (who enabled them to get Pau). And the rest of their talent comes from trades. It's not their fault they are smart and make good trades. No one is forced to trade with the Lakers. There are 29 other teams to trade with, and plenty of of big markets. It's not a coincidence that LA has been great the last 10 years, and the Knicks have been horrible despite both having the same money/market. A smart, patient front office will build good teams (Okc, San Antonio, Utah, LA etc.) a stupid front office will build a bad team (NYK and LAC until this season, Minnesota, etc.)
Basically, it's not LA/Dallas/Chicago's fault that there are so many stupid Owner's and GM's giving out horrible contracts and making stupid trades.

Lakers come out more ahead on this than they would have with previous trade. It may help Orlando too in that they could get Bynum and Odom for Howard instead of just Bynum. If they even want Odom, that is. If the Lakers end up with Kobe, CP3, Superman, AND Odom ... they will have the championship in the bag. And I am a Mavericks fan who hates the Lakers. Mavs would have to hold onto Chandler to have a chance to compete.

    http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/201...aul_talks.html

The Los Angeles Lakers abruptly pulled out of an attempt to rekindle the three-team trade that would have gotten them point guard Chris Paul late tonight and instead sent Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks, into the trade exception the Mavericks acquired in the sign-and-and-trade deal that sent Tyson Chandler to the Knicks.

The end result of the move was that the Lakers now appear poised to make a stronger move to acquire Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic. In pulling out of the deal to acquire Paul, the Lakers now can offer Pau Gasol — who had originally been part of the deal for Paul — to Orlando instead, along with Andrew Bynum, in a package for Howard.

Howard had previously informed the Magic he wished to be traded — reports said he wanted to be traded to the Nets — and with the Lakers at the time working on a three-team deal with Houston and the Hornets to acquire Paul, the Nets seemed to have the lead, with their package of Brook Lopez and draft picks.

David Stern doesn't know jack shit about personnel moves, and i'm sure his stupid ass kept trying to push and push on this deal in order to save face. And finally, LA got sick of it. I don't blame them. I HOPE New Orleans ends up with nothing for Paul, and they only have Stern to blame.

And what if they don't trade Paul, and he ends up getting hurt? That will cost him upwards of 40 million dollars in a new contract. Sue the NBA Chris. Fuk David Stern.

Lakers is now focus on Howard which is a much rare opportunity, they had won without pg before.

League saved them from a bad trade.

No Phil means no championship even if they get Howard. Can't beat the Heats and of course the Bulls. Kobe isn't the same Kobe of 3yrs ago, leaving them with only Howard and miami, chicago defense knows how to handle Howard. They stil need a PG of paul's calibre to win
