80s had 2 superteams that made the finals each season (lakers and celtics won 8 of 10 titles) and it boomed the nba into elite status.

we need to go back to that cause no one wants to see gsw vs. njn in the finals.

No one wants to see Heat vs Super team #2 either

Difference is those teams were drafted and build over time.

Not buddy buddies following each other to different teams, the rivarly is not there, no one really hates anyone. Just egos and money.

How many teams did Magic and Larry play on?

Comparing lakers vs celtics to this junk is laughable.

Reminds of people who play in 8-10 team fantasy leagues.....who cares, don't even talk,

we obviously need contraction in the nba... no one cares about the golden state warriors or the milwaukee bucks for crying out loud... eliminate 8 teams and you'll see much better basketball.

Here's what everyone is forgetting. The NBA owners all own a piece of the Hornets. David Stern works for the owners, not the players. If a majority of NBA owners don't like the deal he's going to follow their wishes.

ESPN just released the real reason David Stern did not let the trade go through.

David Stern is a huge Kardashian fan and doesn't want his favorite show Khloe and Lamar ruined because of this trade. It actually might ruin their relationship because Khloe doesn't want to live in New Orleans, LA. She says the dirty south is just to dirty for her.

The players can pick where they want to end up in free agency like what happened with the Heat. So the owners worrying about not letting the players go where they want doesn't work. I don't see how the NBA can basically allow any trade involving CP3 now. So basically he walks at the end of the season for nothing. How does that help the Hornets or the NBA? Unless the league really wants to contract a couple teams this doesn't make much sense.

Did we really consider Miami a big market team before last year though? So maybe the teams that can clear the most cap space in years with a couple big free agents can sign them. Then compete for a title for a few years until the next super crop of free agents. There will always be teams like OKC popping on and off the title radar too. The Heat didn't win it last year and hopefully they won't win it this year.

Dan Gilbert's email was timestamped after Stern and the NBA already vetoed the trade according to Adrien W. FYI

    you're obviously young and stupid.

first of all, many of the lakers were obtained through trades.... kareem, scott, thompson, mcadoo, wilkes. so were many celtics such as walton, carr, parrish, and dennis johnson.

secondly, i dont know a single person who said they saw too much of magic, bird or both in the finals during the 80s.

superteams are good for the league and helps attract fans. just look at the heat, they helped raise ratings and attendance everywhere they played. just like the 2003-4 lakers with kobe, shaq, malone and payton did.

I long for the day when teams like the Jazz, Bucks, Bobcats and Timberwolves are playing the Finals. That will be must watch TV.

No but seriously, bad teams are bad b/c they are ran poorly. They have stupid owners and stupid GM's who make stupid decisions. Good teams are good b/c they are well-run. No matter how much money you have, if you put smart people in positions of power and makes sensible basketball decisions, you'll have a good team.
Look at how much money the Knicks have access to, and look how horrible they have been for the last 10 years. The Knicks have all the access to the same things as the Lakers, and they still were horrible for a long stretch. It's not LA's fault that they are smarter then other teams.

Agreed 100%. How is OKC and the Spurs competitive? Because their owners know what they're doing.
