I'm glad to see the Clippers finally made a good front office decision Sam Cassell.

this guy was the heart and soul of this team last year, and they didn't let him get away.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Sam Cassell is sticking with the Los Angeles Clippers, who re-signed the free agent point guard Wednesday.

Terms of the two-year deal were not disclosed.

Cassell averaged 17.2 points and 6.3 assists in 78 games last season, helping the Clippers to their best record in 31 seasons and within a game of reaching the Western Conference finals.

During the Clippers' 12-game playoff run, Cassell averaged 18 points, 5.8 assists and 4.0 rebounds.

"It is a great feeling to have Sam back under contract," coach Mike Dunleavy said. "He was such a vital part to our maturation and success last year. We are very confident he will continue to provide the leadership needed to progress to our ultimate goal of winning an NBA championship."

The Clippers acquired Cassell and a future first-round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves last August in exchange for guards Marko Jaric and Lionel Chalmers.

Cassell's 13-year NBA career has included stops in Houston, Phoenix, Dallas, New Jersey, Milwaukee, Minnesota and Los Angeles.
