FIBA Asia Ninja Plays

Malaysia with a big upset at least according to the line set. Think India was a 23 pt. favorite.

[9/16] Phillippines-Bahrain Over 145 [-115]
Phillippines getting pretty much an automatic win here against hapless Bahrain. The probable win will see them through to the next rounds of play. Bahrain is giving up points by the bucket load. 101 to China. 91 to UAE who are not the best scoring club by a long shot. Phillippines should be able to score at least 90 here even though they could ease off the gas late. Bahrain is probably good for 50 or so. Have a feeling they might get a few more garbage points as they go out early in this competition. The 39 point spread seems pretty spot on considering Phillippines win over UAE and the big losses by Bahrain. I actually think Bahrain could cover late, but they could also lose by 50. Ninjas go for points! Starts at 11pm ET.

South Korea looks to complete a perfect 3-0 in group play. They have put up 80+ in both games. India have shown okay on offense in both games and will be looking to at least show some flare if this is their last game. If the Koreans top 80, the Ninjas should be happy by game's end.

Syria +30 [-115]
Chinese need a win to keep pace with unbeaten Japan in this group and should do it easily here, but they have not yet blown teams out. They won by 15 against a UAE squad that just got whooped by Japan and 15 against Phillipines. I'm looking for China to ease off the gas and get prepped for the next round after the win is no longer in doubt here.

Uzbekistan-Malaysia Under 146.5 [-115]
Only a Ninja would find a game between these two teams interesting. But that's what makes the Ninjas better than the rest. It's a little difficult to gleam a lot about these two teams. Both were pounded by their groups best, Iran & Korea. The Uzbekis showed some offensive life against Chinese Tapei in an 81-71 loss. Likewise, Malaysia showed some life in their shock win over India 71-67 in their lone "competitive" match. What we can see if both cannot stop the top talent in this competition. But can either score? That is the question the Ninja must ask. With neither have put up more than 71, I will side with less points as bad shooting > bad defending? IMO, this one is either going to be an ugly, low scoring mugfest or one where neither team stops the other and it tops 170. The Ninja goes ugly.

Well apparently it's no defense. Had a good low scoring opening quarter, but the next two have had 40+. Will need a drought the size of China in the 4th Q.
Syria-UAE Over 141 [-120]
Okay, so from the 1st game this Ninja learns that teams that have not played defense yet, will not play defense now. In doing so, I go for the over in the next game. UAE could not stop Japan yesterday - giving up 101. Both have shown some flashes of offense against the lower tier teams.

Iran-Lebanon Over 142.5 [-105]
Admittedly, Iran has played the two worst teams in its last two - but their 250+ points total is hard to look past. The Iranians love to push the tempo and will look to do the same against Lebanon. The Lebanese have played the other top team in their group [Korea], losing 80-62. Even if Iran isn't as good as advertised against a better squad, they should still do damage here and I think points are on tap against. Ninja!
This over looks trashed early. Not sure yet, but looking at Japan +3 against Phillipines. Gonna sleep on it for a bit.
Tough overnight for the Ninja. Back to the task.
Jordan +15 [-125]
Jordan has played some of the tougher teams in this group and may have been in better position if not for their inability to hold strong starts. They lost by just five to Japan and eight to the Philippines whom they led for most of the 1st half. They have a talented veteran trio that leads this club along with some good young players. China is unbeaten and very business like in their approach. They don't generally blow out the opposition and Jordan needs this game if they have any designs on continuing deep into this tournament. I'm buying the half point here to 15, but waiting just a bit to book to see if the line rises to the point where I won't have to pay. Ninjas do what they need to do though. Get in quick, get out with the cash! Ninjas, unite.

Chinese Tapei-Malaysia Over 145 [-130]
Malaysia showed again last night that they don't like playing much defense. They gave up a flurry of threes to Uzbekistan and 75 points in all that would have been much worse if not for a poor 1st Q from the Uzbekis. Tapei has been shut down by the top two clubs in Korea and Iran, but have been able to put up points against poor defenses [81 v. Uzbekistan & 94 v. Qatar]. Malaysia has given up 75 or more in four of their five games here.

Jordan-UAE Under 151.5 [-115]
I've been noticing during this tournament and others that when the totals move a few points in a specific direction, going opposite the movement has worked out better than going with the movement. This line was at 149 to start and is now at 151.5. I took the 0.5 point up to 152. UAE has a disgustingly poor defense which could make this iffy, but Jordan may also be a little flat from their performance against China. They also know all they need is a win today to advance to be the sacrificial lambs to Iran in the next round. Play this one for half what the Ninjas won from the 1st play tonight in case this is totally off and with UAE so horrid on D, it could be. But, Ninjas believe.
Also think like most that Philippines minus the points is a good play later on. -20.5 currently.

Okay, reverse, reverse Ninja Play?
Line dropped to 147.5 before I could book it at 152. So now like Ninja Schmuck, Ninja go Over 147.5 [-130] and feel so confused his head explode. Now we let the results sort out the thinking for us and go take Tylenol. Ninja out.
