Baseball, soccer and basketball have the best OT rules

They allow both teams to win in OT regardless of who scores first.

Football (Pro not college) and hockey are the worst OT rules because the one who scores first wins.

Whats so bad about sudden death?

Rebuttals are only good for beer pong.

In sudden death not the best team wins but the luckiest one wins especially when coin flip is involved.

Soccer is tough to include in this discussion as there is no OT in most cases (the game ends in a draw) and, if there is OT, at some point it ends in penalty kicks. If you don't like luck determining the outcome you can never advocate for soccer's OT system.

Worse still regarding OT is that OT is included in totals. Why is that? Whoever thinks itīs fair that OT pretty much equals overs in basketball?

Agree with your point though, too many NFL games are decided by coin flip.

Sudden death is the best...everyone has opp. to win in regulation...sudden death is all about what team wants it more

Agree with jgray about penalty kicks in soccer. It can only come about in big games. Like having a home run derby to decide the World Series.

I think sudden death is fair in a game that is not determined by possession. Baseball makes sense that you would still play out the inning if needed. Football however, needs to have a rebuttal period, or make it so that only a touchdown wins the game. Returning a punt to the 50 yard line, then making a few plays for a high-probability field goal isn't competition, it's luck. I would be okay with basketball having a golden goal, since the tip off is only influenced by the players' abilities.

well, when you have the over and are saved by ot, that's pretty cool.

Agree that any OT play should not count, especially in basketball. In sports where there is not a lot of scoring, ties can be taken into account by making odd-numbered totals more expensive. In games such as basketball, where time and score frequency make any given total very unlikely, the score at the end of four quarters should not only decide totals, but spreads.
