    i think ray allen is a much better shooter, but the fact that dirk can get open shots that no one blocks puts that right up there with ray ray

    Yea but the fact that it is even a debate that a PF can be compared to the likes of a first ballot HOF shooting guard like Ray Allen speaks volumes to Dirk's accomplishments and skill level. I mean Ray Allen's whole M.O. is catch and shoot....Dirk scores in all sorts of ways. Plus look how big he is and he is still nimble.

    Versatility wise Dirk clearly has the edge.

    ray allen not even close. quicker release.dirk great shooter but needs a second to line up shot. ray can just catch and shoot.

    Ray is great at coming off screens and hitting shots and making open jumpers when his teamates are getting double teamed, but many of Dirk's shots come when someone is right in his face and when he himself is getting double teamed. This has to be taken into consideration.

    Plus Dirk can shoot off the dribble....post up....or square up from 20-22 feet. Way more versatile than Ray Allen's game.

    Still not even close. Ray Allen has the science of shooting down to a T. Calmest shooter I have seen in my life. Dirk very well may be the greatest shot @ the 4 position but he's not even close to the greatest shooter of all time or better than Ray Allen, give me a break. He has made some excellent contested shots and has to have the nicest perimeter out of any pf not named Larry Bird, but Ray Allen is a pure shooter.

    They're different sizes SportsGuy, different positions. Dirk winning a 3 pt contest anytime soon? Allen is the better shooter and it's not even debatable.

    It's very close

    I would give Dirk the slight edge in the midrange game and he's better in the post, but Ray obviously has the edge on 3pt shooting. They're both superior FT shooters. I would say Dirk is a better closer, but really you could argue it either way. Both future hall of famers.

    I don't know how you can throw somebodies inside game into the mix. This is pure shooting no? or is it ability to score? Obviously Dirk's size gives him an edge under the rim and in the post, his ability to shoot a basketball is not close to Ray Allen's.

    True, however from any range his height gives him an edge as he has less of his shots contested and is less reliant on screens to get a clear look.

    Actually career stats has Dirk with the better shooting FG% over Ray Allen and better TRUE FG% over Ray Allen. Dirk average more shots per game over his career than Ray Allen does too.

    u have to pick dirk, its not comparison.
    ray allen is constantly running off screens to get his open look.
    dirk at his position is constantly getting bodied up when he takes his jumpers.
