I think a majority of people who know what they are talking about actually consider Pop to be the best coach in the NBA.

Agree totally- Spurs were so preoccupied with resting players and they totally lost their game. As soon as Duncan went down the 7 game losing streak started. From there on they fell into a funk. Now every 2nd half of games they are tired.

The Spurs aren't supposed to be the kind of team that should worry about
whom their first-round opponent will be.
To your second point, LA/NO are 2-2, what's so easy about the Hornets ?

It's not the coach's fault that Ginobili has a bum elbow, McDyess played through
an injury and Duncan should retire. Spurs need to inject some new blood on the
court, though. Time is right for Memphis. Credit where due, they would give
any team in the NBA stiff competition right now.

I'm pretty sure he completely changed the team's entire approach and style this year and it worked out pretty well. The offense ran through the guards who happen to be not that old at all.

The spurs match up better with the hornets.

Pop is one of the best coaches of this era. The guy has made a team with a bunch of injured, old has-beens into a contending team. Its not very often you see teams transition and still stay competitive.

Spurs would have had to intentionally lose 4-5 games, and sacrifice
home court in the finals (which they only missed by 1 game vs the
surging Bulls) - not the mark of the franchise to have such little
confidence in their abilities to worry about 1st Round.
anyway, i'd be surprised if Memphis ends it tomorrow.

Everyone knew that this was the last year for the Spurs to make a run at the title and from the looks of it they missed the memo and don't quite have what it takes to hang with the young legs of some teams. If they did make it past Memphis they would probably get clipped by OKC anyways so it doesn't matter all that much. I think a LAL/SAN WCF would've been horrid series to watch anyways so I'm good with this.

The Spurs just got old and it's time to rebuild. Pop can't actually play for them nor can he make them try any harder than they feel like so what is he supposed to do? Timmy turned 35 and it was apparent instantly and Manu and TP are starting to wear down after all these years. A 3-1 deficit is already a tall enough task, but to have to do it against a team playing much higher than their seed is too much. Se la vi SAN see you in...

POP is a good coach-Spurs are a wreck that is in the shop-and the parts are not installed. Tired team
