Can the Lakers catch the Spurs?

    for the top seed

after tonight's loss to denver, the spurs have a 6 game lead. However, look at their next 4 games before the end of the month

    Portland
    Memphis
    Portland
    Celtics

I can see them losing 1 to Portland and to the celtics. the way portland is playing its very possible that portland takes both games. if Lakers keep winning the lead shrinks to 3-4 at the end of the month. They have 7 games in April.

They play the Lakers the 2nd last game of the season. that game could be for the top seed. I dont think the Lakers really care about having the top seed in the West. I think it just matters that they have a better record than the top seed in the East to have home court in the Finals (behind the bulls by 1 game)

and btw how about Lamar Odom for 6th man of the year

    any thoughts?

Don't think they come close, nor do I think they are trying to. They want to stay above the Mav's and the east though, so if the spurs spiral for some reason maybe it does get close but I doubt it.

I'm more interested in what Dallas can do since they are so close to the Lakers.

Dallas has a tough away schedule but 9/11 games should be comfortable wins for them: covers.com/pageLoader/pageLoader.aspx?page=/data/nba/teams/schedule/team404047.html

if standings stay as is, Portland will upset the mavs in the first round. i think portland will jump to 5th and upset OKC instead.

I don't think the Lakers will catch the Spurs unless there's a monumental collapse on the Spurs' end and the top seed is there for the Lakers to take. If the Spurs keep playing, they'll stay #1 seed.

Of course they can. They probably won't get all the way there, though.

the lead is now down to 3.5 and counting down

spurs play celtics next in boston (i think) after tonights loss to the pacers and the injuries the spurs have they will lose that game as well so the lead should be down to 2 with 7 games left and 1 game left between spurs and lakeshow

home court adv is just on the lakers fingertips

If there were 20+ games left they would have a chance to catch them. Just not enough time...

Spurs are who i thought they were. Regressing back to reality. There incredible shooting pace the first 60 games was way too high and couldnt carry on. Lakers will win the first seed and that pretty much guarantees another birth in the finals barring injuries.

looks like they might do it. spurs all out of sorts and gave up too much ground while the lakers are rolling over everyone.

6 losses in a row? seriously? come on san antonio. that's nuts. same old bags they always have been, i guess.

Lakers now have to beat the spurs head to head AND win 2 more games than the spurs besides that matchup

    congrats to the spurs
