After a nightmare trip 3 weeks ago at Gulfstream, I've been watching for Drum Major to resurface. He does this weekend, and his connections must think he's real sharp because they are shipping him to Santa Anita to run in a Grade 1 on the turf on Saturday.
He'll likely be 8-1 or better, but it's extra tough shipping to the west coast to run in this type of race. Plus, a 14-horse field on the turf will force a perfect trip from off the pace if he's good enough with his closing style. His connections must think they can steal this $300,000 race to try this bold move. I'd be more confident if they just left him at Gulfstream, but I gotta play him anyway just in case he scores.
Anybody handicapping the features at Gulfstream or Santa Anita on Saturday, please drop your picks. In the Santa Anita Handicap, I'm leaning toward High Limit, who has looked real good winning his last two for Bobby Frankel. Won't be much of a price though.
Several stakes races at Gulfstream on Saturday, including the Fountain of Youth for 3-year-olds.
