The pool of competition is literally billions now, compared to maybe in the tens of millions 30 to 50 years ago or more. Golf a much more global game now.
The golfers of Jack's day were better than they are today. The golfers of today are worse than in Jack's time. If you think a 14 year old could have qualified for the Masters in Jack's day like he did in this year's tournament, then you are totally off the rails with your so called logic.

Did 14 year olds back then play international tournament schedules?

Did they have the same access to clubs/balls?

The talent gap is shrinking between tour pro and and good college player, due partially to technology.

And on the other topic, Nicklaus finished 2nd 19 times in majors, does that mean he was better cause of more top finishes or that he sucked and couldn't close at nearly the rate tiger did?

Please stop giving Philly a bad image with your ignorance .Here is you're so called logic.

    For example saying

"The facts like", and then stating your opinion
"The facts like", and then stating your opinion again
"The facts like", stating your opinion a 3rd time

As for your "A 14 year old would have never qualified in Jack's day".

They just added the Asia/Pacific amateur in 2009 to invitees.

The game of golf is 5x tougher nowadays. They stretched just about every course 500-1,000 yards.Holes where your hero Jack was hitting a pitching wedge for his 2nd shot guys now have to hit 3 and 4 irons and get it to stop or spin the same as Jack did with a wedge because the greens are faster.

As for the thread of course he is over rated now only because of what he did when he was younger.People just don't get that he is never going to be the old Tiger.

15 completely changed this tournament. I think he wins if that ball never hits the flag but that's irrelevant - he still had a chance and didn't come through. Really beginning to wonder what is going on with Tiger on the weekends at the majors.

one mishap cost him a chance at the tourney....did you expect him to win by 8 shots?

First off, let's stop referring to golfers as athletes. Golf is also closer to being a game than being a sport, IMO. With that out of the way, all-time Tiger is not overrated. Holding his number 1 ranking for so long clearly speaks for itself. Presently, he is absolutely overrated. NO ONE FEARS HIM ANYMORE.

Hell no, I was just saying he used to could do shit like that. Tiger is done, I hope that cheater (both marriage wise and now apparently in the middle of a round) never wins another major.

While I won't go so far as to say he's "simply" a product of steroids/HGH (that's hyperbolic), you've hit on something that's not discussed enough -- or at all? -- when putting Tiger's dominance in perspective.

He's used P.E.D.'s... anyone that doesn't think so hasn't been paying too much attention. And if you don't care (which I suspect most don't) then you're disqualified from thinking you can properly assess his dominance in golf history... sorry.

You get a lukewarm to moderately-hot "AMEN!" from me, G.

Haha not you again... The rain was a non-factor. Once again you prove to not know a thing about golf.

Tiger is flat out a different player than he used to be especially on the weekends. His putting has been better this year but it's nowhere near as good as it used to be in the majors.

Tiger may not be as good as he used to be ........but he is still the best golfer in the world.

    Numbers do not lie !!!

He is is the only guy in the world where 3 golfers beat him in a major and he gets dumped on.

One year under Haney, according to the world golf rankings, their was a bigger gap between Tiger and the second best player, then the gap between #2 and #100. That's dominance! Also to say the competition of Jacks time was better is just ignorant.. Every sport is constantly getting better through time, it's micro evolution. Jack would not have 18 majors if he played today..
