    Observations From The Sportsbook

    So my local is Bet Rivers in Des Plaines. Like most books if you hang out long enough, you get to know some interesting characters. Going to detail a few here.

    First off, there's a midget that's here every day. Dwarf, little person, whatever. A midget. And he always has a roll of 100s. Not sure if he's just rich or a pro gambler or maybe just gives handies in the bathroom. Anyway he is surly as fukk and is constantly drunk and swearing at people. It's quite amusing to watch, especially if he's losing because it's really hard for him to get off the barstool

    Then there's these twins. Jeff and Chris. You literally cannot tell them apart. They are fat in a rather "round" Humpty Dumpty type way and have gray hair. Pretty nice guys but just not something you see all the time.

    And then there's the old timers. In there with canes and shit, can barely walk, with a 10 team parlay in their hands. Super depressing. That's me one day I say

    I was walking thru O'Shea's sportsbook in Vegas a while back. The leprechaun midget from the O'Shea poster walked right past me.

    Like you say, I think "little people" have reputation of having an attitude. Understandable considering their lot in life.

    Guy behind me having it out with his girl who went out with some other guys to a Bulls game, she's pretty hot, but not enough to allow a gangbang IMO

    Another dude just shouted "I SUCK!" after losing the Blue Jays game. He's also on Nebraska and keeps pronouncing Rutgers "RutJers"

    There's a little clique there - a group of probably 5-10 guys (includes the twins) who are there early every Saturday and Sunday. They do this in order to get a good chair. The leather recliner chairs with drink holders are pretty nice but get snagged up quickly. And most people just camp out if they get one. Otter these are the exact same guys you're talking about. I can spend part of a Saturday there and by the end of it I am exhausted. Lots of emotion in most gamblers I've noticed. People yelling and screaming at the TV, I guess I remember years ago doing that. But anyway when there's 200 of these guys in the same room - after a whole day of that - it gets rather exhausting, mentally. You really have to be able to block it out to think clearly. One thing that definitely stands out - many people live bet emotionally - and it sinks them.

    On occasion I will head to Sports Haven in New Haven CT. Always the same group of guys. Mostly older guys and many horse bettors. These guys are the biggest degens ever. I don't even really go there to bet on their kiosks much unless its for futures, or super bowl or something. But these guys are here all day, everyday spanking their asses like they're a jockey and slapping newspapers yelling at the TV's. It's comical stuff. The people watching is A++

    I also love the guys selling their "tip" sheets for horses and now sports. They aren't allowed to sell them I guess but they'll try to get you to place a bet for them in compensation. Half the guys here are contractors, painters, etc. They take a 2 hour lunch break and come bet the ponies in the middle of the day.

    I'd say 9:30 on Sundays. Saturdays about 10:30 is good.
