the way he got away in that race i thought he would've placed better than DH for Show. but $1040 for his sub 2 min performance is nothing to sneeze at....nor much to write home about. it is what it is i suppose. hopefully get him right back in next week and draw another good post. would you believe the 5 hole was/is the most winning spot at the meadows so far this season?
on a side note: when i bought into this trotter i was torn between him and another pacer. pacers are more my style and i really liked the name (not that that has anything to do with it but...) and lineage but at the last minute i went with the trotter as if it were a giant "fade myself" with the biggest "gamble" of my life (again, i repeat-"i am small time cecil!"). since then the trotter has raced 17x and the pacer i was originally going in on got hurt and has raced 3 or 4x since august, for half the purse loot SI is racing for. figuring the med/trainer/vet bills for months w/o racing i more than likely wouldve surrendered() my share on that one. my boy may not be setting the world on fire but at the very least: he's racing & pulling his weight
quick stats since ive done the research in the past few minutes:
    since ive gotten in:
    starts: 17
    wins: 3 (50% of purse)
    place: 2 (25% of purse)
    show: 2 (12 % of purse)
    4th: 4 (8% of purse)
    5th: 1 (5% of purse)
6th: 3 (you get laughed at)
7th: 2 (no one but me see's him finish-lights go out-people turn towards ticket windows etc...)

edited to add: he's back in friday at the meadows in race 7, firing from the #3 hole with Big Dick Stillings driving what a "work horse"

    anyhow: you liking anything today?

    Monticello Tuesday

    413 and 614 straight

Columbus, OH --- The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission has suspended driver Jim Morrill, Jr. for 270 days (from Oct. 27, 2010 to July 23, 2011) for failure to take the breathalyzer test on Oct. 23, 2010, at The Red Mile.
In a ruling dated Feb. 16, 2011, the KHRC stated, "On 10/23/2010 at The Red Mile, Mr. Morrill did fail to take the breathalyzer test before driving in the third race and attempted to drive in the sixth race in an unfit condition. Mr. Morrill was then ordered by the Judges and refused to submit to a breathalyzer test. Mr. Morrill is suspended 270 days and must appear before the license review board of The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. While under suspension Mr. Morrill is denied access to all areas under the jurisdiction of the KHRC."
The Feb. 16 ruling replaced an earlier "indefinite suspension" levied by the KHRC against Morrill on Oct. 25, 2010.
Morrill has not driven in a race since Oct. 26, 2010, at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. March 22nd opening night

Scratches are as rare in Harness as I've been with winners

I will step away until Pocono.........

Now with the 2011 season getting ready to begin in northeast Pennsylvania, Taggart is making arrangements to return to Pocono Downs where he makes his home in the nearby area. However, this year, he hopes to go back and forth -- race at Monticello Raceway during the daytime and at Pocono Downs at night.

Hey Cecil you bringing your Trotter to Pocono?

Snyder's been doing a fine job with him out west (meadows) and its still those slot enhanced purses

yea, i cant wait either. a few more weeks till Chester and Pocono fire back up. ill be there for opening night of racing at Chester (march 18th) love that nightime racing for some reason. and im sure ill be making a few trips to the Poc this season along with Vernon/The Big M. on the "to do" list is a visit to (historic)Goshen(during their short summer card) and The Empire City (yonkers).
If the Cambest pacing filly does well i may be heading to The Red Mile

beats me but as jon q public: i like that track. 50 cent tri's, dime supers, cute latina pr (public relations) girl, track announcer from mohawk winters over there (not the greatest but it somehow adds legitimacy to the track-call me crazy), the track has more "last place at the half mile" who finish first than i ever recall seeing, they get their fair share of talent shipping down for their meet etc.....

    Pavia eyes Pompano drivers' championship
Tuesday, March 08, 2011 - by Frank Salive, announcer, Pompano Park

Pompano Beach, FL--Joe Pavia Jr. is hoping the saying is true that history repeats itself when the 2011 Isle of Capri Drivers' Championship is staged next week at The Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park.
"I've been in a few of these drivers' championships in my career, but the one I remember best was right here at Pompano close to twenty years ago," Pavia said. "The format was a 10-man round robin competition staged on Tuesday evenings over the course of several weeks. The final came down to me and Ron Waples. Back then, I was only a kid at the time and I was fortunate to beat him. Ron was one of the best in his day, a horseman I consider a true legend and the top prize was $2,500."
Next week, three races of the championship will be carded on each of the Monday, March 14 and Tuesday, March 15 programs. The 10-race competition concludes with the final four races comprising the Pick-4 wager with a guaranteed $5,000 pool on the Wednesday, March 16 program. The races used in the Championship will carry increased purses.
The scoring system awards 10 points for a win, 7 points for second, 5 points for third, 3 points for fourth, and 1 point for fifth-place finishes. In the event of a scratch, the driver affected receives 3 points. From the $17,500 prize money on the line, the winning driver takes home $8,000. The runner-up wins $4,000, third place is $2,000 and fourth place is $1,000. The other five participants each receive $500 in addition to the usual 5-percent driving commissions.
Pavia, a career winner of 4,812 races in the bike for almost $30 million in purses, also explains that taking part in the contest at his Winter base does not affect the annual spring shipment of his stable to Pocono Downs. He plans this year's move North for March 19 and 20. The fact that the Isle of Capri Drivers' Championship concludes on March 16 also raises the possibility of a very happy coincidence for Pavia. That's the date of his 51st birthday.
"No doubt your ego plays a part when you go into a competition of this kind," Pavia said. "For as many years as you're in this game you always get pumped up for a special event like this. To some extent you're at the mercy of the horses and post positions you draw, but it's always a challenge and very exciting. Everyone wants the best showing they can get because you're out there against the best.
"Definitely, I respect the other eight drivers in this championship and I think this top nine Pompano drivers could be competitive at any track anywhere. To me it's the same feeling as earning the chance to play in all-star game."

Pompano Drivers' Championship: Too close to call
Saturday, March 12, 2011 - by Frank Salive, publicity director, Isle Pompano Park

Pompano Beach, FL --- There are tough tasks in harness race handicapping, and this one looks impossible. There's no logical way to choose a favorite for the 2011 Isle Of Capri Drivers' Championship to be decided over the March 14, 15 and 16 programs at The Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park.

On statistics alone, perhaps Bruce Ranger would stand out in the nine man field on the basis of over 8,000 lifetime winning drives and the fact that he's amassed over 75% of those career wins at The Winter Capital of Harness Racing. In typical Ranger fashion, he will only offer words of respect for the eight drivers he'll face in the contest.

"Every one of us will be motivated by that top prize of $8,000, there's no disputing that," Ranger says. "Then there's the pride thing when you want to show your best out there when you're racing against the best. Even with the draws now complete I'm stumped on trying to find a favorite to win it. We've all drawn some decent horses with good post positions and an equal share of longshots. The design of the contest is great and I'm really looking forward to it," Ranger adds.

"I've been in a drivers' contest like this before and what it comes down to is a great cast of guys that won't make any serious mistakes," offers Dan Clements. "It's going to come down to the horses we draw and the trips we can work out," he added.

Joining Ranger and Clements to contest the $17,500 prize money are Joe Pavia Jr., Ricky Macomber Jr., Mike Micallef, Wally Hennessey, David Ingraham, George Napolitano Jr. and Anthony Napolitano. Three races of the Championship will be staged on each of the March 14 and 15 programs, and the last four races to decide the winner will comprise the Pick-4 wager with a $5,000 guaranteed pool on the March 16 card.

I'll use Joe Pavia Jr. in on top in my 50 cent tir-keys.......
