Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Todd Pletcher topped the US lists in prize-money terms for the fifth time in 2010 - but a new name led the jockeys in the shape of Ramon Dominguez.

Twice leading rider in victories, the Venezuelan led the senior prize-money list with $16.91 million in earnings, having ridden 369 winners in 2010.

Among his Grade 1 winners were top turf performer Gio Ponti, runner-up to Goldikova in the Breeders' Cup Mile, and leading two-year-old Boys At Tosconova, but his biggest victory came via Haynesfield in the prestigious Jockey Club Gold Cup.

Dominguez narrowly defeated John Velazquez, who finished second with $16.74m and 239 winners, putting himself in pole position for the EclipseAward, considered the true measure of North American champions. They will be handed out later this month in Miami.

For once the prolific Russell Baze, world leader in terms of career victories, ceded first place in the numerical list which was topped by West Virginia-based Deshawn Parker, with 377 wins from 1,552 rides. Dominguez even beat Baze for second, the latter finishing with ‘only' 368 this time around.

According to Equibase's end-of-year statistics, Pletcher's tally of $23.18m (274 winners) put him well clear of runner-up Steve Asmussen, who netted $16.31m.

Asmussen, though, led the numerical charts for the sixth time, with 506 winners from his various barns spread across the country, which sent out a total of 2,412 runners.

Pletcher, though, looks a near-certainty to win his fifth Eclipse Award to add to his four-year reign from 2004-07, when the gong followed a similar prize-money title. Among the trainer's best winners in 2010 were his first Kentucky Derby with Super Saver and an impressive Breeders' Cup Juvenile success with Uncle Mo.

Other high-profile Grade 1 wins came from the likes of Quality Road, Eskendereya, Life At Ten and Devil May Care, while Pluck and More Than Real landed a double in the juvenile turf races at the Breeders' Cup.

Super Saver's owners WinStar Farm led the owners' lists with $5.18m and a total of 46 victories.
