Handicap the owners, the trainers, and the veterinarians. When you find a winning combo of owner/trainer/vet then look very closely at their horses.

you have to dig for it. local newspapers, trade magazines

there are no "official" vet stats but vets sometimes publicize who they are working with, it is good for their business.

I also like to look for early and late money, dropping in class(duh), and 1st time claim. Oh, and of course the driver change from a crap driver to a good one. Forgot to add. For runners I look at recent workouts. That has gotten me some real longshots lately especially when they throw out a 35 s 3F and then come back and race like crap. Since they are not machines if they go off long odds I bank on them and it has gotten me some real longies. I also look at early speed or closing in the race and how the track is doing that day. If you have 1 or 2 speed horses in a race of closers they have a chance to get away with murder on the front end and should take it even at odds.

Track bias, trip handicapping, speed on off tracks, proven inside information, hot jockey's, equipment and surface changes. Early money, late money.
