TP Race 9 Lane’s End S. G2 (5:12 ET)
#6 Outlaw Man 8/1
#4 Kettle River 8/1
#1 Connemara 9/5
#7 Northern Giant 5/1
#6 Outlaw Man ships in from the left coast for the McPeek barn. His first go against winners came in the Sham last out, and the colt was toward the back of the pack early while saving ground, and came up the rail with a mild late run to finish fourth, beaten 3 ½ lengths. That was his first go over a synthetic surface, and the trainer saw enough to try him back here on poly. Blinkers go on and this colt figures to move forward off his last start and is reunited with Solis who was aboard for the maidens core two back.
#4 Kettle River also exits the Sham. The colt trailed the field early, made a move coming around the far turn and had nothing in the stretch, checking in eighth. The colt was coming off a two-month break after a sharp Alw-1 score two back. I like the pedigree on this guy, by Congaree out of the stakes winner La Grande Mamma ($209K). Among the runners he beat two back was The Program. I am expecting a better effort out of this guy here and the price should be right.
#1 Connemara was a game winner of the Camino Real Derby over the Tapeta at Golden Gate last out, although his speed fig came up on the light side. He has won three of four with his only loss coming to Ranger Heartley in the cal Derby where he was off poorly. The Pletcher runner is a half to stakes winner Lion Heart ($1.39 million), who was second in the ’04 Kentucky Derby.
