Most amount of rainfall in the shortest time span in county history mixed with a new keeper turned into a very unfortunate series of events.

These things have to do far more with cycles, randomness, and the reporting of it --- none of which was ever as noticeable many years ago. Cycles usually explain everything, and mass hysteria is a stupid feature of the modern media propaganda age, enhanced exponentially by technology.

Just read a story that reports the Racing Board has asked Santa Anita to cancel the remaining days in this meet. Santa Anita said, "No". WTF?

Maybe Baffert will close his barn there. That would be the end for Santa Anita

Santa Anita also declines the request to close the track. Will remain open for more deaths they decided.

Not sure how the insurance companies are dealing with the liabities. Seem like its an out for owners with sick ponies.

All Santa Anita wants to do is to get past this weekend, which is Breeders Cup Weekend. Actually it is Friday and Saturday. Then they will close the Track. The owners are going through a nasty divorce. They want to sell the property and can get a small fortune for it. It will be Del Mar and Los Al and that is about it. There has not been a drop of rain so far at Santa Anita. They have run out of excuses.

Are owners and trainers intentionally sending lame unreported horses there and hanging the death on the track and collecting insurance? I have no idea how the association can allow a track to operate with a death rate like this and the risk healthy horses must cross their owners mind. |Is it the track?

Most horses are not insured as premiums are very high. Because of the prohibitive cost only the most valuable animals would be insured.

I'd seriously doubt the insurance companies are paying out regularly to owners of horses running at Santa Anita.

If the track is proven as liable( gaotta be something up in that paddock otherwise), someone gonna have to pay. The Stronach clan gonna put all their cash on a boat and fukoff to Bermuda tout suite

the breeding of these "new age" thoroughbreds also has something to do with. I always heard sire's like Unbridled Song family where a bet against as baby's as they where so fragile.... this along with the trainers masking injuries of un sound horses with drugs that should not be running contributes a lot too..Thoroughbreds are fragile to begin with not at all like the machines standardbred (harness) are

They had a horse put down after the Classic.Look Santa Anita is Done. They had no plan after Hollywood closed and I was a pro horseplayer for ever from 90s till 02.I watched the races it was worse breeders cup ever.Bc should have been pulled. They need to put the Tapeta in.Golden Gate has been a much better follow.SA Was not ment to run for 7 months. They should race weekends only and put in Tapeta.

The Breeders Cup will not run on a track with Tapeta instead of dirt. It is that simple. That also has absolutely NOTHING to do with Santa Anita's Problems. Ownership wants to sell the property. They can make a small fortune off of such a sale. The Governor wants to end Horse Racing in California, period. Los Al does not have a Turf Course and is a very odd shaped track. Either Del Mar expands, which they really do not want to do, or Horse Racing in California is finished.

Installing Tapeta would ensure that the BC doesn't come back; all that's needed is to adopt Euro-style medication rules. Get rid of drugs, get rid of the problem.

I would love it if Gulfstream got bigger and they made it the common BC site.

Fact is, most surfaces suck now that SA is bad, or the weather is bad, etc. Del Mar is ok but small and the surface is also marginal.

Santa Anita wont be around the next time they are eligible for BC.I THINK Keenland and Del Mar have it net years I might be wrong. If im right NeXT time SA Could host would be 2022.No way SA Is still around.Plus Los Al is done the minute Dr Allred passes away.

Wow, interesting predictions. Yes, SA is next up for a potential 2022 bid. It would be natural for them to host then, too, so we will see.

I wonder if the track will speed up by then?

Prosecutors find no crimes in Santa Anita horse racing deaths

LOS ANGELES -- California prosecutors found no evidence of animal cruelty or other crimes during an investigation into a spike in horse deaths at Santa Anita Park racetrack over the past year, according to a report issued Thursday.

A task force formed by the Los Angeles district attorney found the 49 deaths at the track during a 12-month period ending in June occurred at a rate higher than the national average but lower than previous years in the past decade and lower than Churchill Downs in Kentucky.

District attorney Jackie Lacey made two dozen recommendations for improving safety at racetracks and said she would sponsor legislation to make veterinary records more transparent for horses racing in California.

"Horse racing has inherent risks but is a legally sanctioned sport in California," Lacey said in a statement. "Greater precautions are needed to enhance safety and protect both horses and their riders.''
