Sellers said he wasn't invited to Jockey Challenge

Erath native disputes claim that he missed his flight

Highly accomplished jockey Shane Sellers said he didn't attend the Cajun Jockey Challenge at Evangeline Downs on July 13 because he never received an invitation from track officials.

Sellers has been at odds with the national horse racing establishment in recent years due to his crusade for jockey rights to wear advertising and increasing weight limits to decrease the health dangers for jockeys.

Hall of Fame jockey Eddie Delahoussaye also didn't attend the Jockey Challenge.
The Cajun Jockey Challenge was a special event that brought together many of the jockeys from the Acadiana area that have received national acclaim to continue the celebration of this racing season where two Cajun jockeys won Triple Crown races.

Did you see Sellers and Romero on the HBO jockey special?

Even though the two have good intentions they are pretty abrasive. The racing industry stays afloat with slot and card room legislation going in their favor to raise purses which in my opinion is welfare.I see nothing wrong with racing making money simulcasting to casinos etc.and being able to conduct betting online and getting takeout taxes reduced to help the industry.I think we as race fans have to come to terms that people like pulling handles, playing cards and betting sports more than betting on horses and people like the jockey guild have to realize that the golden era of racing is gone.Even the nifty novel idea of 10 cent exotics doesn't excite the gambling public.
