Race 1 Selections THE HORSEPLAYERS JOURNAL by Mike Hamilton 4 NEXT ISSUE is worth a look now that he has moved to the Moreau barn after finishing a closing fourth in his Mohawk debut. We don’t mean to belittle the previous trainer as all trainers have to start somewhere, but this is a game of numbers and Moreau’s numbers are vastly superior to those of the previous trainer who has a career UTR of .146. And in Next Issue we’re talking about 12-time winner who went 10-for-27 last year, including a win in the \NW5 class at Pocono. He’ll be our first Spot Play of the week. 7 CHEYENNE FORD might have what it takes to win this one if he’s left alone on the lead. That certainly wasn’t the case in his last start at Flamboro as he was hounded from the half-mile pole. Two back he made it close but lost a photo after a great trip in a race where he was even-money. 8 TOMY TERROR is a logical pick after making front at this same level and leading for all but the last few strides on 09/14. The AGCO report indicates that he finished with a broken ‘spreader’ which could easily have made the difference between winning and losing by a neck. He was really fired up in that race and was on track to pace his fastest mile in some time until the wardrobe malfunction. 6 OUTLAW GUNPOWDER has won back-to-back at Flamboro with the last win coming Thursday, just hours after he was after he was entered for this race. There’s a chance that someone will shell out $8K for a 30-time winner and if a claim is entered I would expect him to be driven very aggressively. When he was claimed from this same trainer on 07/03 he was sent to the top and wound up second as the 4-5 fave. 2 JENKINS CREEK dropped to this level last week and opted for an inside trip at 2-1. He was in close quarters through the stretch but under some urging at one point and never what we’d call “running over” those he trailed. We’d be a little more accommodating had he not given up the lead in two of his four starts. MIKE’S SPOT PLAY: 4 NEXT ISSUE
