Based my prediction on Sunland Derby off the race of the week info from Thorograph. Don't have the PP's for Race 8.

I remember looking at Mine That Bird's odds at 100/1 about 3 weeks out from the Derby. Liked his sire Birdstone and thought about playing him. Then I looked at his speed figures and said no way he can win. Big mistake.

I wasn't on the Mind That Bird that day either, but just watching the replay of that race still gets my heart pumping, it was a great race.

Yeah, But Tom Durkin blew the call. He did not see Mine that Bird coming up the rail. This is in contrast to his great call in 2004 Belmont when Birdstone denied Smarty Jones the Triple Crown.

I think Durkin was simply astonished, he had called the horse "well behind the rest of them is Mind That Bird"at about the minute mark of the video, I doubt he ever expected to see this obscure horse running away from the rest of them a minute later, hence his confusion in quickly identifying the horse as he surged up the rail.

Race 8 - I like the 7 here and may single him in my pick 4. Other intersting horses, 2 could press the pace and force the 7 to run out faster than he may be able to, letting someone come off the pace. The 3 is an interesting choice from off the pace here.

    7/3,2,1

    Race 9
The 9 could wire the field here if the rest of the field lets him. ALso like the 6 and the 3 should be in good position to strike from off the pace.

    9-6-3

    Race 10
Another possibel single here for me with the 5, I think this is far and away th ebest horse in th field, and should sit just off the pace and be able to blow them away after the turn.

    5/1-3-2

    Race 11
Really like the 7 Govenor Charlie here, the 4 Shakin it up seems interesting too from off the pace, but I think the 5 Saint Prado and the 2 Abraham lead the way to a nice pace and let either the 7 or the 4 have it coming down the stretch.

    7-4/2-5

    Ticket 1
    1,2,3,7 / 3,6,9 / 5 / 2,4,5,7 = $48

    Ticket 2
    7 / 3,6,9 / 1,2,3,5 / 4,7 = $24

I do remember Mine That Bird in the Derby. I was at Santa Anita and my friend and I put $10 ($5 each)to win for the heck of it, and it won. We were laughing so hard that I think people there thought we were crazy!!

I should have played both Mine that Bird and his half brother Summer Bird based on the their Sire Birdstone. Bred to run all day and Birdstone won the Belmont and Travers. I did bet Summer Bird in the Belmont in 09 and cashed in on future odds at 40/1.

Thanks BG. I have a hard time grasping the 8th race. I just think anyone of these can win it.
