    Retama Park tonight (29Aug)
Hmmm, believe this is my first thread ever down in the ponies forum so go easy on my old, dumb butt. Heading out to Retama this evening with Queen Bee and some of her clan. Also hoping to meet up with VegasDave and maybe make a quick video if we can. None of that's important really.

Just wondering if some of you pros who do play the horses regularly have some tips for me. Generally just look at jockey records and try to play a quinella or two. Found the card as it stands now HERE. Appreciate the education anyone might be able to offer.

Yeah, I think they're the bulk of the card but do believe there are some longer races than the usual 5-6 furlongs that quarters run. Especially keen on the 8th race which is a mile and have already decided to go with a blind quinella in race #6 on Pan y Vino and Una de Gato.

Well, the first race is for Arabians.

        I always skip that shit.

        But, QH's are great fun.

Willie Bee cash a few winners and make a video.

Willie, if you know little to nothing about horses I'd suggest playing numbers ie telephone prefixes in Trifectas etc.

Trying to handicap those races will likely lead you to the race favourites and won't offer much of a payout should you hit, play some longshots.

FYI, I tend to play $1 Trifecta part wheels #7-4-1,2,3,5,9

Cost $5 but tend to pay well when they hit.

Yep, love to watch the quarters, used to see them run behind the general store in Montell, TX, years ago when some ranchers would arrange some races on the sly. I'll try to get some photos/vid even if all I do is lose.

Good advice plommer. Will play my ex-wife's measurements on one of them: 36-28-45 Picked Pan y Vino because I'm certain that is Latin for Bread & Robyn. Also have pegged Una de Gato to quinella with Pan y Vino on account of the fact I have a Garfield tattoo.

All in all, not a bad night. Between wife and I, we left about $100 at the track last night, plus another $20 on beer, hot dogs and parking. No quinellas there now which sucks, though you can box an exacta. Didn't cash one of those which was roughly half of our losses over the course of nine races. Closest was a 7-5 ticket in the second, and they ran 7-3-5, still had a $20 winner on the 7 in that one.

Didn't catch up with Dave and his bro', think they took off chasing tail. And it sucks that the local San Antonio rag has got nothing -- Zilcho, Bupkis, Nada -- on the races last night in this morning's metro edition. They have devoted a large chunk of coverage to the SA little league team that lost yesterday in the LL World Series, understandable. But generally speaking this is why San Antonio, despite being a Top 10 city in population count in this country, will always be a second-rate city. They spend so much time pushing the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns that they overlook and completely fail at covering sporting events and teams in their own city.

This will interest the boys in the SBR Texas office: Guess who was there last night guys? Give you a hint: What little joint we often frequent is right across the freeway from Retama Park? That's right, our favorite little Hooters waitress Shayna was on hand and interviewed before one of the races about some cross-promotion between the track and Hooters.

Willie you phucking tease, mentioning a hooter girl by name and not attaching a photo is unacceptable - and in poor taste.

WB, I thought you knew better.
